Chapter one
Sophia stood in front of her closet, the morning sun filtering through her bedroom window. The light highlighted the array of clothes that had been chosen, bought, and hung up with care. Yet, despite the vibrant colors and varied styles, she felt an all-too-familiar sinking feeling. Today was her high school reunion, and the anxiety that had been simmering for weeks now boiled over.
sophia had always struggled with her body image. Growing up, she was the chubby girl, the one who had to shop in different sections than her friends. She'd endured the taunts and the whispers, and though she'd found solace in her small circle of friends, the wounds left by careless words and sidelong glances had never fully healed. High school had been particularly brutal, a place where conformity reigned, and deviation was punished.
