Chapter 83: Malcom's Past

Malcom threw the two cards at full speed, and instantly they were transformed into huge axes before turning towards the direction of the monster, who smashed it with its own Ax.

Malcom shot out in the Minotaur's direction.

His speed was considerably higher than the beast that was trying to land a blow, failed all its attempts.

Malcom, with his dagger, caused damage in various places of the body of the creature.

The Minotaur was about four meters long, and its body was quite large. The cuts that Malcom made with his dagger were not so deep for the beast to slow down.

Instead, those attacks only made him angry.

With its anger, it constantly threw fire in the direction of Malcom. Still, he, using his magic treasure, moved out of the way without problems.

Suddenly the Minotaur, in a movement that Malcom could not foresee, stopped. Looking at the man with its eyes injected with anger and changing its posture, he placed the ax on its head.

Malcom prepared to receive the attack, but instead, the Minotaur began to breathe strongly.

From its mouth, a huge amount of green smoke began to come out. The Minotaur did not stop panting, and from its panting, a huge amount of saliva fell from its mouth.

When it touched the floor, an acid smoke appeared, the small green smoke began to fill the entire place, and the Minotaur waited for this substance to reach the place where Malcom was.

Once the smoke touched Malcom's feet, opening its mouth wide open, he cracked his teeth, igniting all the smoke in an instantaneous flare that exploded around that place.

Malcom reacted as fast as he could jump to the cave's height, but the explosion followed them to surround the entire place.

"Malcom!" Skyler came out screaming, terrified.

The Minotaur planted its sight on her, and without wasting time, pounced to cut her with the ax, but just before it could reach her, a huge javelin pierced his stomach instantly.

The Minotaur let out a huge scream as on top of it, Malcom landed, taking the javelin and turning it into a huge sword that he brandished to sever the monster's head from the gash.

The Minotaur's head is separated from its body, bouncing off the ground and Malcom landing on the ground after eliminating the beast.

"Why did you come out?" He asked with a deep frown.

She looked at him, somewhat embarrassed, and then tried to explain, "I thought maybe the explosion had hit you!"

The young man smiled helplessly. "It did, but I have a perfect card for that," Malcom said. As much as possible, he would never fight a battle that he would surely die.

Walking towards the Minotaur, he took the dagger and opened its chest. As he did so, a rune appeared.

When he took it, he looked at Skyler and then said, "We were lucky it was a Son of the Race!"

Skyler frowned in confusion. "What do you mean by the Son of the Race?" She asked. The term was completely new to him.

"He is not a slave. There are creatures that use Minotaur's as guardians or things like that! This is not the case. This was a free Minotaur!" Malcom replied brightly.

Just as he said that he then handed the Rune to Skyler and then said, "Take it, in my hands that rune is useless."

Skyler looked at him, shocked, and then asked, "I have no idea what you are talking about?"

Malcom looked at her, genuinely surprised. He mysteriously smiled before he answered, "When we are in trouble, you will understand! Activate the Rune, and you will see that something great happens."

She saw him somewhat confused but taking the Rune, she nodded. He looked at the Minotaur and calmly began to walk towards the cavern.

Everything seemed in order, and the tunnel extended several meters more.

Skyler looked at him and calmly said, "We could get lost if we keep going down!"

"The Minotaur took this cave as a lair because it must have easy access to the outside! We will be fine," he replied with a confident smile.

Skyler nodded. Sometimes she forgot that Malcom was a real treasure hunter. Knowing these kinds of things as part of his job and smiling, she decided to just agree.

"Malcom, how long have you been searching for treasures?" She asked while looking at him expectantly.

Malcom thought for a second. "Seven years," he casually replied while walking.

Skyler stopped where she was looking at Malcom with curiosity as the man drew a smile on his face.

She stared at him for a while and said doubtfully, "Seven years! You're eighteen, aren't you?!"

Malcom nodded, his expression full of nostalgia, before he spoke, "Yes, I started when I was eleven. I was the lackey of an experienced hunter. He taught me many things, but as an assistant, I did not have access to any treasure."

While Malcom was telling his story, they kept descending into the cave.

"I was with him for a long time. Almost four years, he was a good guy, he used me to carry things and maybe because he felt a bit sorry for me, but the truth was he was always a good guy to me, he taught me many things, and he was the one who gave me the boots," He continued, he then looked at Skyler and then smiled widely.

The girl had never seen Malcom smile like this. It was surprising.

"He used to say, not being able to fight is a problem, so you must be able to run. With this, you can too! He was a great help to me," he continued.

Skyler looked at him with some interest when she asked, "And where is he?"

Malcom smiled froze. Although his face darkened, he still replied, "He died."

When he said that, a shadow of sadness covered his face when he added, "He died because of me… It was my fault!"

He continued before Skyler could speak, "It happened four years ago. I was just a fourteen-year-old brat! That was the first time I found out how useless I truly was…."
