The poison didn't kill her. Why is that? Couldn't find the antidote?" Her tone was laced with a mixture of challenge and curiosity.

A smirk slowly twisted across Ryan's lips, dark and unapologetic. He met her gaze without a flicker of remorse, his words a blunt truth. "No, Esme. I could find the antidote."

His eyes lingered on hers, the hint of a darker truth in them. "The point wasn't to kill her," he continued in a low, deliberate tone. "It was a warning.
