Chapter 48: Chapter 47

They got into the old Toyota and started back to the village of Montsegur. Nick was driving, since Jack was sore from the wound on his leg and didn't have to move it much to avoid bleeding. At one point they heard sirens approaching. Jack said to the driver.

"Turn this corner and park on the other street."

The young man did so and a few moments later they saw a French Gendarmerie patrol car passing at full speed along the road they were coming from, but in the opposite direction, while it sounded his siren.

"They are going to the Camp des Cremats, no doubt because they have been alerted about the shooting." Mike said.

"There's going to be quite a stir when they find the gutted bodies." Added Nick. "Didn't you want them to see us driving down that road?" He asked Jack.

"We do not want to be associated with this bloody episode." Answered the American.

"We have the pistols that were involved in the shooting. They can charge us if they find them." Added Mike.
