Chapter 45: ch45- United Front

Compared to the few hundred monsters on Grizzly Mountain, the number of creatures gathered near the giant tree was far more terrifying. The bulk of them were blue-bladed scythe monsters, interspersed with purple scythe creatures and even some spear-wielding beasts.

After the city's battle arena event, the group had gained a better understanding of the so-called Belros monsters, a general term for creatures that shared similar "chassis" structures. These creatures all had four sturdy lower limbs, but their upper bodies varied. Some were the scythe monsters found near the school, others were spear-wielders from the skyscraper near the Anhui Tower, and there were even club-wielding brutes, slower but larger in size, commonly referred to as maul beasts.

In total, the city contained more than five varieties of Belros monsters, each dominant in different zones but similar in overall strength. At the base of the giant tree, well over a thousand monsters had gathered, and based on the familiar sight of a massive stone gate guarded by the monsters, it was clear that many had already begun their assault on this resource point.

Meanwhile, on the other side, a similarly large group of humans was fiercely battling the monsters. These people, survivors of the People's Park base, were putting up an aggressive fight despite being outnumbered. Unlike the survivors at the school, the people from People's Park had a reputation for their ruthlessness. Early on, they had faced a brutal massacre, losing nearly half their population when they failed to complete their base's initial mission.

That bloody battle had taught the survivors the harsh reality of this game, igniting a savage determination in them. Since stabilizing their base, they had launched repeated counterattacks on nearby monster nests, strengthening their ranks despite their reduced numbers.

Unfortunately, the People's Park base had never produced any extraordinarily strong Awakened gods. As a result, they couldn't clear out the nearby monster nests quickly enough. By the time they gained enough strength to confront the creatures, many of the nests had become heavily infested, making them nearly impossible to destroy.

When the new main task appeared, requiring the capture of resource points, the People's Park survivors had no choice but to launch an all-out attack. With fewer than 2,000 people remaining, they knew this was their last chance.

When Alex and his team arrived, the People's Park survivors were shocked to see reinforcements from another group. They hadn't expected anyone to "journey" all the way to their location. Without having secured the resource point yet, the People's Park base could only see a five-kilometer radius on their map, giving them the impression that other bases were much farther away than they actually were.

Even though the arena battles had revealed the locations of other bases, the distance of over five kilometers still felt insurmountable to many, especially given the sheer number of monsters that had to be fought along the way. However, Alex's group had encountered surprisingly few obstacles. The monsters had largely gathered to assault the resource point, and with their immense numbers and strength, any monsters they encountered were swiftly dealt with.

When they arrived at the giant tree, Alex's group saw the People's Park survivors locked in battle with a massive wave of monsters. Without stopping to admire the towering tree, which loomed like a skyscraper with its canopy blotting out the sky, Alex roared a battle cry, leading his forces into the fray.

With over 1,000 fighters from People's Park and 2,000 from Alex's group, the combined forces quickly overwhelmed the 1,000-strong monster horde. The blue sea of monsters was rapidly torn apart, but the battle was far from easy. It raged on for over half an hour, and victory came at a cost, with several hundred lives lost.

Eventually, the two groups joined forces. The People's Park survivors had dwindled to fewer than 700.

Without wasting time, Alex approached the leaders of the People's Park group and said bluntly, "Merge your base with ours. We've already captured one resource point. After this one, we only need three more to establish Newbie City."

A bald, muscular man scoffed at Alex's suggestion. "You? A student? Can you even represent your base? Where's your teacher? Get someone with authority to talk."

However, one of the other People's Park leaders, a handsome young man with long bangs, pulled the bald man back. His expression shifted as he said in a cautious tone, "A guy who can deal over a thousand damage is more than qualified to represent his base."

The long-banged leader's words stunned the others. Even the bald man's attitude changed as he stammered, "Yan, you can't be serious! How could someone deal that much damage? Especially a..."

The bald man couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence, as he realized that if it were true, this was not someone they could afford to provoke.

The man named Yan, who had long bangs, was one of the nine R-ranked Awakened at the People's Park base and held the highest level, at 47. His fivefold damage multiplier meant that his regular attacks could inflict over 90 points of damage, making him the strongest fighter in the base. Because of this, Yan held considerable influence in People's Park. Now, he nodded reluctantly and added, "I remember it clearly. On the second day of the arena battles, he killed me with a single blow. The damage was 1,080."

At this, the other leaders fell silent. The arena battles had started on the second day, meaning that Alex had already been dealing over a thousand damage just three days into the game. That was more than ten times Yan's current output! And now, five days later, who knew how much more terrifying Alex's strength had become?

It was no wonder he had been able to capture a resource point in just a single morning.

Realizing the strength of Alex's group, many People's Park survivors felt that joining forces might not be such a bad idea. With someone this powerful leading the charge, capturing five resource points didn't seem impossible, and they could all benefit from living in the newly established city.

In the end, the People's Park survivors agreed to merge with the school base. Most of them would stay and help capture the resource point, while others would return to their base to inform the remaining survivors of the decision. Once the resource point was secured and they were teleported back to their respective bases, the People's Park survivors would join them.

One potential issue was the People's Park guide, as it was uncertain whether he would agree to relocate to the school base. If he did, no one knew how Quinn, their own guide, would react to meeting another guide.
