Chapter 29: Kang

Caith and Kang became interlocked in a fierce battle. Blood sprayed the leaves and undergrowth around though. Large trees we're up rooted in the aftermath. Yet every time Caith had the opportunity to deliver a fatal blow he didn't do it. Even though Caith seemed to fight fiercely, there's a certain softness to his attacks. This slowly allowed Kang to get a better hand. Sionna tried to help but ever time Kang would flick her away like a small twig. She stood away from the pair and pointed her hand. Trying hard to make the light appear from it again yet nothing would happen. Frustrated she tried another attack with her sword yet Kang flung her away leaving her dagger sunk into his leg. She understood why Ciath wasn't hurting Kang but at the same time she starting to worry that if they didn't kill him, they would end up dead.

Kang continued to get the upper hand in the battle. Eventually he was able to flip Caith onto his back and pin him to the ground with his hands. Kang began squeezing Caith throat, and Sionna could hear his windpipe being crushed. Without thinking Sionna rushed toward them.

"Stop!" She screamed while hearing a soft buzzing in her ears. Suddenly ice went flying from her finger tips covering the entire right side of the monster and part of Caith.

'Brilliant idea!' Caith's voice said inside her mind. He kicked the monster away with his hind legs and backed away. Quickly he turned into his human form and began chanting and holding up his hands.

Ice also appeared from hands and began covering the beast. Sionna attempted to help but nothing came from her hands.

"I need to get my dagger." She said creeping towards the monster and trying to avoid the blasts of ice. Kang was struggling to break the ice but as soon as he did he was just covered in more. Caith was focusing deeply on the monster in front of him but just shook his head. His blue eyes seemed to tell her very clearly to stay away. So she carefully backed away while watching Kang slowly become a large ice structure.

Then she remembered the sound of horses which had gotten closer and closer. The horses who were galloping were not in a slow trot and they were close. She glanced at Caith who looked exhausted. Sweat covered his chest and beads adorned his forehead.

"They're here."

Figures appeared under the dark canopy, many on horseback and others on foot. Their eyes illuminated in the darkness and weapons shining.

Sionna looked at Caith who's eyes showed an emotion she had never seen in him before. The frozen beast near them still had Sionna's sword in his leg.

'In the bag there are more weapons,' Caith's voice appeared in her head and she glanced at him. Watching his wounds heal themselves rapidly. Quickly she went after the bag on the ground and reached inside. Pulling out a staff she recognized as Sullen's the man who captured her. She pulled the bag onto her back and joined Caith facing the figures in the shadows. Firmly she gripped the staff feeling the wood in her hands the gem began to grow. Caith let out a formidable howl that made the entire army suddenly very aware of how fast their hearts were beating in their chests.

'This is your last chance to run.' A foreign voice rang inside the armies heads. Sending chills down spines and making people's hearts beat even harder in their chests.

'I guess they all want to die,' Caith said only to Sionna his voice holding a certain sadness. In a blink of an eye he was gone and she heard a horses distrusted whinnies. Followed by the thud of dead bodies hitting the earth, she could hear some gasping their last breath.

Sionna steadied her breathing listing to the figures in front of her as she tried to pick her first target. She could hear the sound of a bow pulling back and her vision narrowed onto a man on horseback with his arrow pointed at her. His yellow cat eyes were shining in the dim light. It was Demarcus who was aiming his bow at Sionna.

An arrow went wizzing past her as Sionna ducked, very narrowly avoiding the arrow. Another flew and nicked her shoulder, blood staining her green dress.

At the smell of her own blood anger started to boil inside her. The newly familiar hum of magic started to fill her ears and the gem on the top of her staff erupted with bolts of blue light. Illuminating the forest around her and piercing random soldiers who were attempting to hind in the shadows. They could now see the fearsome wolf standing about 6 feet at the haunches. A corpus hanging limply in its mouth.

The horses without riders instantly took off, some with riders still on them. Panic set onto most of the small army, most unsure how to attack the wolf. While avoiding the random bolts of blue magic shooting through the dark forest.
