Chapter 39: Guardian

The count ignored me as he glided into the home, and it took me a moment to realize Azger hadn't invited him in. Did he just have a soft pass to enter whenever he wanted to, or was he even bound to the same rules as his children? Dracula approached the couch as Azger left Luc's side, kneeling next to the moaning vampire on the couch.

"I thought I warned you to be careful with him," Dracula's voice was annoyed as he spoke and it took me a moment to realize he was speaking to me. I shook off my surprise, crossing my arms as I watched the count access Luc's condition.

"I didn't do anything to Luc," I shot back, annoyed as he carefully stroked Luc's face as the hybrid continued squirming on the couch. The count scoffed, clearly indicating that he didn't believe me. "I had to go into his mind so that we could even bring him back here."

"Back?"
