Arren subconsciously placed his hand on his chest, and his heartbeat became faster and louder.
Spade's gaze...
For some reason, even if Arren couldn't hear his thoughts or discern any emotions from Spade at the moment, he just knew... No, he could somehow feel it.
The raw emotions that Spade was feeling in that moment.
He took another step, not breaking their eye contact. For a few moments, Arren almost forgot where they were or the fear that once engulfed him the moment that he saw the leader.
It was Spade who slowly returned his attention to the Marquis, who was now doing his best to get up, holding Spade's foot, trying to push him.
The Marquis's bloodshot eyes and the different aura he gave off had become terrifying. If it was the Arren before, it was enough for him to crouch in fear, not daring to look.
That's it, I don't know if this is satisfying, to be honest, but for me, this is just a conclusion that they most prefer. I can make a more cruel one with action here and there but Spade definitely didn't want that.
I can also make a more emotional one but I feel like Arren had enough, he despaired enough, he really came there to leave the past behind. And like what they said, Arren only wanted them to be safe as if the Marquis was still active, there's no way they could live safely without worries.
I think Arren only wanted the Marquis out of their lives, so his being in a vegetative state and being thrown and securely guarded for the rest of his life was more fitting. As they said, they came for closure and not another traumatizing event, and Spade will never let Arren's hands be stained by blood and Arren was the same for Spade.
Again, I don't know if this is satisfying enough for all the cruel deeds he did but at least he was OUT! He would be tortured for years and imprisoned by his mind which in my opinion far crueler than directly killing him, right???
Thank you for reading as always!
