She stood in her mother's bedroom, watching her touch the mark created by Edgar."You are still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Please do not wither away in your room because of this. I need you." 

It was the biggest shock for her to learn that Edgar had visited their home because of the rumors they spread about Alessandra and the cook. Kate couldn't believe her ears when James had told her that Edgar cut her mother's cheek.

Kate felt like it was the biggest crime ever committed. Her mother's beauty was beyond compare in this town so to cut her face should have a punishment of death for that person.
