Chapter 60: Afterword

With this, The Dragonwolf is officially over.

When I started writing this, it was for my eyes only, just a vague idea in my mind that probably wouldn't see the light of day. Kudos to Dragonspectre; he was the one to urge me to post the clusterfuck that was The Dragonwolf for others to see.

Lo and behold, after nearly ten hours of editing, I posted my prologue (it was still a mess), yet people seemed to love it instead of burying me under a metric ton of shite. It was poorly written even after taking a lot of inspiration from Naerys (I do have her/his? permission), and it underwent at least ten rounds of editing to a later date and remains the chapter I spent the most time on ever.

I had no grand plan, no outline, and I had never written a piece of literature before. It was inspired by the vague idea/feeling that I could do better than other fanfictions could offer and a vague direction in my mind. Yet the support and interest kept me going, pushing me to learn, grow, and do better as a writer, not abandon the story but explore and unveil my idea.

Things snowballed from there, and I made a lot of mistakes and not only learned plenty but grew a lot in the process as a person and as a writer. I was often tempted to abandon The Dragonwolf, scratch everything and start from the beginning, or give up altogether because I wasn't happy with where certain things went. Many helped me along the way, including Ashestodust, Bub3loka, nicknm, and my main editor, Void Uzumaki. Profound thanks to all of the readers who supported me throughout this journey.

Truth be told, I could probably write another 50-100k words instead of this chapter, but I wanted to finally wrap this story up and finally finish it.

That being said, that's not truly the end of this work.

I reread the whole of it - and frankly said, while I like the story that I managed to tell, there are a lot of problems at the start, including amateurish writing, rushed plots, lack of depth, and not as smooth interactions as I would like them to be. After growing so much as a writer, I was painfully aware of all the flaws and mistakes I committed along the way.

I love the story - wholeheartedly; it lifted my spirits and gave me a purpose after a shitty break-up and depression, and it has a special place in my heart, so here I'll announce that I am making a rewrite (as those on Discord probably know).

This story will not be taken down. The rewrite will be soft and will not change the story much besides polishing it, elaborating/expanding more, or fixing the clunky parts or plot holes. A project that will be one of the lowest priorities on my list, both for my personal satisfaction and as homework - reviewing and carefully fixing my mistakes while polishing the story as it should have been(and maybe adding one or three omakes that I did have in mind). I will only post it when I'm done, so you might not see it for a long time.

Lastly, I'm already on other platforms with the rest of my works. If there's enough interest, I can post them here too, I suppose - drop a comment if you do.
