Chapter 7: Gino's journey
It was quiet Gino was training outside the cave training since Alex was off on his Quest all she could do was train she wanted to get stronger so she could protect her little brother she loved him she didn't care what others thought she wanted nothing more. Sensei was appeared at the mouth of the cave smoking his pipe Gino sensei shouted she stood up "yes sensei" she replied. "With your brother on his journey, you must go on one yourself you'll have to head south through the forest past the marshes you'll come to a volcano you'll find someone there to help further your training and after your training is complete you'll rejoin with your brother". " yes sensei" she replied without hesitation she grabbed a bag a bow and took off threw the forest she wanted to get back to her brother as quick as she could. the forest to the south was small and let out to big plain with mountain river the forest caused the river run from the west to the south and led down through the plains and off into the unseen distance scattered about the plains were small forest areas but spread out like patches on a quilt. she walked for 3 days and the plain was getting smaller there was a huge castle to the north side of the field and in front of her was a massive marshland spreading out for days the castle was old and abandoned it was half sunk into the marsh. A loud bang came from inside the castle, as something got knocked over she saw a figure in the tower window but couldn't quite make it out. The castle smelled musty and old the lower floors we're completely submerged by the marsh.
It was dark so Gino lit a fire in her hand. when she did in front of her was a girl she looked like she was Alex's age. "Your blood smells delicious," the girl said licking her lips her eyes were red and it caught the fire in Gino's hand making much brighter her skin was pale like she hadn't been in the sun for years. She disappeared into the darkness "I don't get many visitors" she hissed it echoed throughout the castle "what are you" shouted Gino "isn't it obvious what I am you're a which after all" the girl replied still hiding the shadows. "I'm no witch am a mage just like my brother" Gino yelled creating a ring of bright for illuminating the darkness revealing the girl. She was sitting in the corner cowering Gino couldn't tell if it was just a ploy. " she's a vampire" a voice came from behind her it's a boy he was taller than Gino he had black spikey hair and silver eyes his skin was pale and he wore a red and black suit he was fit to. "Hello, Gino it Is finally nice to meet you I am your familiar Kaguya". It was quiet for what felt like ages. " what the hell is familiar".
After explaining what the contract of mage and familiar is Gino wasn't sure what to think "what happens if the contract is broken" Gino asked after a few moments Kaguya answered "When the contract is broken the mages familiar dies and the mage or mages who broke the contract will be sentenced to death by the spirit realm". He continued to tell her about Asura His sister and about many other ways contracts are broken. " Did Asura tell Alex this" Gino asked her heart was broken she always wanted to be with him but she couldn't. "Most likely she's told about that part but she ignorant on the rest she never liked to do her studying but she's always been jealous of you" Kaguya laughed. They seemed to forget about the vampire sitting in the corner "are you gonna kill me now?" she asked. The room fell silent they realized they had forgotten about her "have you done anything worth being killed for?" Gino asked her. She sat there she looked rather Innocent to Gino she reminded her of a little puppy her mom had gotten her on her three months before she died. "I'm a vampire," she said Gino looked confused. "Have you ever killed anyone or drank blood before?" Kaguya asked she shook head no "I don't even like the smell of human blood I only say that to scare people off" she answered. Gino asked her for her name after that she said it was Phina it was dark now the realized they had spent all day talking "what do familiars do in combat" Gino asked. "we use the type of magic our mages use it's also handy if we have the right weapons fire magic user require a fire staff and a fire grimoire. You'd use the grimoire id use the staff basically." he said scratching the back of his head. "where are we supposed to find that stuff" Gino asked "well where the old man sent you to of course. The fire dragon at the volcano that erupted causing this marsh".
Gino couldn't sleep she was upset and angry at the same time. After morning arrived Kaguya told Phina that she must be a Dampnire a direct descendant of Dracula and the Demon Lord herself they aren't exactly vampires and they aren't exactly demons.
The marshes were hard to cross there was hardly anything to walk on except a few large patches of hard earth after a few days the marshlands gave way to a beautiful open plain there was a big city off in the distance.
