Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Aftershocks

The following hours are rough. Arguably, harder than the fight. Bodies need to be gathered and identified, properly given their dying rites. The remaining guards still look at me suspiciously, and I grip the sword tight, keeping it by my side the whole time.

Magnus and Eurus transform back into humans. Magnus stays by my side, arms crossed over his chest and steely glare ready for anyone who looks at me the wrong way. Eurus sits next to his brother’s dragon form, tending to the wounds that were acquired during their tussle.

“Do you think they’ll be okay?” I ask Magnus, returning to Dominik’s side. I rest my hand on the rough scales of his head.

“I’m certain,” Magnus replies. “Being forced into a different form is hard on the body. Not to mention the electric iron they were wearing.”
