Chapter 26: Asking For The Impossible

"Luca," called Edna who wanted to make sure Luca was conscious or not.

"E ... den ..." Luca answered in a weak and hoarse voice.

"Hey, are you okay? I'm treating your wounds now. You should rest…"

"I… I… must complete my task…"

Edna shook her head, forbidding Luca from getting up. She pressed both of the man's shoulders to go back to sleep.

"You haven't healed yet, Luca. You need rest."

"I… don't want to disappoint Master Maxi… millian any further… I have left out something important."

"What did you leave? Let me get it," said Edna, making Luca shake his head.

"The bottle… that… Master targeted… The bottle we came here for… That bottle… can take us home…"

It was an important bottle! Edna thought for a moment. Her master and Luca had returned. They didn't leave Edna alone. They were able to fulfill their promise to bring her out of the kingdom.

If she could get it that meant they would leave this kingdom immediately, right?

And if the bottle failed to be in their hands, her master and Luca would stay in this place longer. Edna would also be stuck with them.

"Where did you leave it?"

"At ... the West ... fall residence," mumbled Luca with difficulty.

Westfall? It was where Edna lived before!

Huh, what was Luca doing there? Had the man been at the Westfall residence all this time? How could that be? Did this have something to do with the masked man breaking into the mansion and trying to hurt Edna the night before?

'Has her hiding place been discovered?' Edna panicked. At this rate, they must leave this city right away! No, they must leave this kingdom immediately!

Edna had to find the thing that Luca left behind, so they could get out of here as soon as possible!

"Have you been at the Westfall residence all this time?" she asked.

Luca nodded.

"What did you leave? And where did you leave it?"

Edna knew enough about the security, as well as every corner of the Westfall residence. She spent seven years there. As a worker, a lowly servant, to someone who cleaned the whole house. Edna knew more about the residence than anyone.

One thing that concerned her was whether the security had been tightened or not. However, given that Westfall cut the finances for security a lot, it seemed they didn't add more guards or increase the patrol time.

Edna hoped so.

"A small bottle… It's red… I hid it under a yellow chest in the west warehouse."

That was the warehouse that was looted.

Edna nodded in understanding. She felt this was her chance to gain her master's trust. If she could help Luca, perhaps Mr. Maximillian would forgive Luca and look at her on the bright side.

Then, their master would likely leave this kingdom right away after getting the bottle.

Edna wanted to prove to Maximillian that not all humans were as wicked as he thought. Even though she was only human, she wanted to prove her usefulness. She wasn't cunning. Edna just tried to help Luca and prove that dragons and humans could help each other.

Moreover, if Edna found the remaining stock of her blood there, perhaps she could give it to Luca. It would heal the man's wounds immediately.

Edna prepared dinner for Maximillian in the garden as usual, but the man didn't show up. Was he still mad about what happened to Luca? Edna waited for an hour, but her master still didn't come.

As Luca once explained, Edna didn't have to wait. Their master might not be in the mood for dinner. Hence, she decided to go back to her room.

Then, when Edna returned to her room, she found Maximillian standing cross-legged in front of the door.

"Come with me," said the man.

Edna followed obediently.

They arrived at Maximillian's room. The man then threw a bag containing a stash of jewelry at Edna, causing it to scatter on the floor.

"What is this, Sir?" Edna asked confusedly.

"That loser has failed to complete his task. Worse, he lost to the humans. I will send him home. I'm not in the mood to stay here and smell the rotting human scent. Leave this place too," said Maximillian who sounded strangely calm.

"But ... what about our agreement?'

"Our agreement? How dare you say that?"

"I mean ... Luca and I have made an agreement that he and you will take me away from this kingdom."

"Tch, annoying. Forget the deal. Just leave this place."

Edna stiffened in place. She should be happy that their agreement was nullified, right? Why did it turn out like this? Was it a trap? If she left, then her master would kill her. Like the man's threat before?

"Are you going to kill me?" Edna asked.

Maximillian turned to his servant and sized her up from head to toe, hoping his anger, as well as his annoyance would roar up again. However, seeing his servant just standing there and doing nothing strangely calmed him.

No. He wasn't calm. He was upset and annoyed because he couldn't get angry at this disgusting human.

"Did I do my job poorly, Sir?" asked Edna while embracing her bag tightly.

Edna was restless because she didn't have a place to go if Maximillian kicked her out. The girl tried to think of something, but her mind was as white as a paper.

Somehow, she felt a bit sad. After all the things she had done, this was what she got?

"Do you think all humans are the same? Am I, who is only a lowly human, also of no value or of any use to you?"

Maximillian crossed his arms. "What do you want, human? Don't you realize, letting you go unharmed is a blessing. You will never get that chance again. Yet, you plan to piss me off again and make me kill you right here?" Maximillian asked while walking closer at her in an intimidating manner.

Seeing it, Edna looked down in fear. She had crossed the line. She was being rude. However, if this was her last chance, Edna wanted to hold onto it very tightly.

"Sir, give me and Luca one last chance."
