Chapter 2: To the World Where I can Never Return

Wind in my face, Sun in my eyes, and sweat dripping from my forehead, as a sword comes in contact with mine, that is glinting as the sun bounces off it. The other sword is held by my father, who then made another swing at me but only came in contact with my sword again.

"That's enough for today Adira. Remember to make your hits less predictable. I know you know my moves by heart, but if you ever got into a real fight it wouldn't be like this. You would have to be able to act quickly while remembering to never take your eyes off your opponent, or their tactics they make withts their weapon."

"Father, I understand because you tell me everytime, but how do you expect me to actually experience it? My whole life I've only ever seen our family. Not to mention when I ask what's on the other side of your protective spell you never tell me anything."

"Yes, but you never know. One day you might have to go beyond our barrier and face many new things. whether I want that to happen or not. But for now your right, there is no reason for you to go over. This place is your home and it's perfect for you to be just who you are." He said while flicking my still sweaty forehead." Also what do you mean 'Just our family?' What about the rest of the village."

"You don't have to hide it from me, I know the rest of the village is fearful of me. Father, why is everyone so afraid of me just because I have two different colored eyes? Is having a turquoise eye and a green eye that bad? If it's that bad why aren't you and mother afraid of me?"

"How could I ever be afraid just because you have a different eye pigment then everyone else? I love your eyes. your green eye reminds me of the forest with its light forest green color. While your turquoise eye reminds me of the ocean when it is calm and the sun shines right on it."

"That's enough father, it's embarrassing when you say things like that! But, Have you ever been over the barrier, father? I asked cautiously, trying to change the topic. I can never remember a time where I remember you going over." Seems he took the hint.

".... I have been over the barrier, but you already know this since you know it's my "protective spell." The world beyond the barrier is not that great. People over there just aren't the same as us. They are very greedy, and cruel, ugly people. I don't want to hold you back from what you want in your life Adira, but I fear with your personality, you won't be able to understand their ways or customs. They see with their eyes only, while we are built to see with our hearts."

"So this is why father won't let me go over? What about when Ember my sister comes into the world?"

"Adi You sure think you're ready for a lot as an 8 year old. Even if you're mature you are still only 8."

"So that's a no?"

".....maybe when you're older. Come on now let's go check on your mother and the doctor I'm sure your sister is on the way very soon"

"Bet you can't beat me to mother!" I said as I used my magic to push me faster out of the field towards our humble house. But my father then appears in front of me.

"You're about 25 years to late to beat your old man."

"Adi…..Adir….Adira?"

I opened my eyes to see my sisters calm green eyes that she inherited from our mother. A dream, I thought. From a time that is no longer possible to go back to.
