Chapter 3: 2: Devour System
"Now, give a loud cheer for the newest members of Gaia's army!" the city leader roared once the lights disappeared and the ceremony was over. The crowd immediately burst into an uproar cheering and screaming their congratulations to these young men and women who had just awoken. These kids had looks of excitement and shock on their faces and in their eyes as they looked at their status panels and system information that they had just received. As of this moment, they could evolve, grow stronger, and change their fate. They could finally join the fight against the invaders for their home. Their new systems had ignited their passion to grow powerful.
The cheering went on for a few minutes before the city leader waved his hands, trying to get the crowds attention so he could continue on. It took a few minutes, but the crowd finally quieted down enough for him to speak again. "This concludes the awakening ceremony for this year. Remember to have your kids who have awakened today report to the guild in the north end of the city to register and receive their adventurer ID. They have a week to do so. With that, I wish you all a good hunting and once again, congratulations to all who have awakened today and I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors!" After finishing what he needed to say, he gave a wide smile, waved to the crowd, and proceeded to disappear from the square in a blink.
Within the crowd of kids who had just finished awakening and checking out their new systems, Michael Day was looking over a message screen that appeared in front of him that only he could see.
DEVOUR SYSTEM
GRANTS USER THE ABILITY TO DEVOUR ANY ENERGY FROM ANY NON-LIVING SOURCE AND ASSIMILATE IT INTO THEIR BODY STRENGTHENING IT AS WELL AS GIVING HOST THE ABILITY TO USE IT DEPENDING ON TYPE AND AMOUNT OF ENERGY ASSIMILATED.
After reading what it said, his eyes lit up even more with excitement and fiery passion. this system seemed to be pretty powerful and contained a lot of potential. He imagined himself in the future wielding all types of energy as he wiped out the enemy forces by the thousands as he willed the message away. This system would bring him a lot of fun in the future. He smiled at the thoughts going through his head and started heading back to his parents like the rest of the kids who had just awoken.
It took him a few minutes to navigate his way through the crowd and get back to his parents, where his mother immediately wrapped her arms around him in a bear hug. "Oh my sweet baby boy has finally awakened! I really want to know what you received, but I can wait until we get back home. you can tell us all about it then. Alright? Let's go."
After finishing what she wanted to say, his mother and the rest started on their way back home, which was located in the north west-part of the city, about half a mile away from where they were right now. They had a 2 story, 4 bedroom house made of a white stone called lumina that faintly glowed during the night, giving it a sort-of noble-like look. Id didn't take too long for them to get back, in which they immediately headed to the living room and sat down where Michael's father began. "So, son, Tell us everything. What you got, how it works, everything. We can't wait to hear."
His parents sat next top each other as they both looked at Michael waiting for him to start. They could n't help but be filled with excitement, expectation and giddiness. He let out a light chuckle before starting. "Alright, since you two are so excited, I'll get right into it. My system is called the devour system. With it, I am able to devour, basically absorb, any type of energy from any non-living source and assimilate it into my body. Depending on how much I absorb and the type of energy, it will strengthen my body as well as potentially give me the ability to use that energy.".
When he was done, his parents sat their in silence for a few minutes. Although they didn't say anything, he could tell they were thinking about what he had said and were slowly comprehending what this system did, their eyes shining even brighter with even more excitement, and joy. A few minutes had passed in silence before his parents looked at each other, nodded to themselves and turning back toward him, where his father spoke once more. "Could you show us your stat page. of course, you do not have to if you don't want to, but, we were curious as this system sounds quite powerful and different and we wanted to find out what stats you had, as well as anything else on there that was unique to you. We are pretty sure there might be and we might be able to help guide you if so."
Michael didn't even hesitate or think before giving his answer. "Yeah, definitely. Just, how do I show you guys?" His parents smiled hearing him answer so quick with no hesitation. "Easy. Pull up your main character page. in the bottom right hand corner, there should be a small gear looking symbol. That is your system settings. Select it with your mind and all the settings options will pull right up. Somewhere in there, about halfway down maybe, there will be an option that can allow others to see your stats when the use their Scan skill, which everybody including you has. It should be blocking it right now. you can unblock it, and your mother and I should be able to see your stats after that." his father explained.
Michael followed step by step, and soon he had found the option his father was talking about. He quickly switched it allowing for the Scan skill to work on him. "Alright, done. you both now should be able to see my stats, though, I have two stat categories. I am not sure if that is normal or not." Michael told them. His mother raised a brow, and thought for a second before replying to him. "Hmm. Let's see first." With that, both his parents activated their scan skill and checked out Michael's stat page.

There was silence for a few moments as his parents read through his stat panel. Their faces not giving any indication of what they were thinking. when they finished, they both looked at Michael again. "Alright, so, in regards to having two stat categories, although not common, there have been instances where people have had them. This doesn't indicate how powerful a system is however. Now, in regards to your combat power just after awakening. It is pretty good. There are systems out there that gave their users a higher starting C.P, however, your power is not what grabbed my attention. It is the ability of your system. With the ability to absorb any energy from pretty much anywhere, it's unheard of. You have to potential to wield any energy type, enabling you to strengthen yourself possibly indefinitely. You'll definitely have to work harder than most for it, but you have a real shot at getting infinitely powerful."
"Alright, enough of me talking. do you want to give this system a go, and have a small test run right here and see if you can absorb any energy from the air? I know you are getting sick of me talking." his father droned on. With that last sentence, Michael's eyes lit up, and a flame could almost be seen in them. "Hell yeah! I thought you would go on forever, and my ears would fall off!" Michael said, jumping to his feet in excitement.
