Many people, before facing failure, would not easily give up.
Albert's roommate was clearly no exception. After studying the first volume of "Practical Defense Magic and Its Counteractions Against Dark Magic '' for a long time, he couldn't resist attempting a spell.
"Armor Protection!" Fred raised his wand and swiped it downward, reciting the incantation from the book, but nothing happened.
"The book says the Iron Armor Charm doesn't emit light!" George reminded him, comparing the hand gestures.
"Here, give it another try." Lee Jordan picked up "The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection" and threw it at Fred.
"Do you want to smash me to death?" Fred quickly jumped away, glaring at Lee Jordan in anger.
"Facing danger can stimulate your potential, and a book certainly can't kill you." Lee Jordan immediately defended himself.
"Try this!" Albert impatiently threw Fred's pillow at Lee Jordan. He thought Fred would probably have a hard time succeeding, so why not throw a pillow instead of a book?
In fact, Albert was right. After being hit by his own pillow multiple times, Fred temporarily gave up.
Of course, neither George nor Lee Jordan succeeded either.
"Alright, you two should just practice the simpler spells obediently," Albert couldn't help rolling his eyes at them.
What should this be called?
Overestimating their abilities and being greedy?
Well, Professor McGonagall probably saw him that way back then too.
However, Albert was different from the three of them!
He had the Skill Panel and the Experience Pool, so as long as he acquired the skills, he could cheat by consuming experience points whenever he wanted.
"Is there any trick to quickly learn the Iron Armor Charm?" Fred couldn't help asking.
"A trick?" Albert pondered for a moment and said, "Practice, practice, and practice—probably the fastest trick!"
"But how did you master these spells so quickly? It's only been summer vacation!" George felt a bit frustrated. He realized that Albert knew quite a few magical spells!
This made him doubt who came from a wizarding family after all.
"I think I can guess the reason to some extent!" Albert thought for a moment and said.
"What reason?" Fred quickly asked.
"Have you ever played a game where you can level up?" Albert glanced at their expressions. "Well, I guess you haven't. Let me put it in another way. Does playing chess require practice to become good?"
"What does that have to do with this?" the twins couldn't help but comment.
"Chess not only requires talent but also improves with practice. The better your chess skills, the more skilled you become," Albert gave an example that didn't quite fit. "Magic is somewhat similar. Casting spells requires talent..."
"Are you saying that your talent is better than ours?" Lee Jordan interrupted him and sarcastically remarked.
"No, what I mean is that you need to improve your own magical power and control through practice," Albert explained somewhat exasperatedly.
"Are you saying that your magical power is stronger and your control over magic is better than ours?" the twins asked skeptically.
"Yes, at least that's what I think for now," Albert nodded. "As I mastered more and more spells, I found that learning new spells became easier than before. I still remember what Professor McGonagall said: 'Hogwarts can teach young witches and wizards how to control and use magic.'"
"Why do I feel like you're pulling our leg?" Fred raised an eyebrow.
"I would never do such a thing, and as I said, this is just my speculation," Albert shook his head repeatedly. He didn't deceive the three of them. As the number of self-taught spells increased, he also accumulated more experiences of failure in learning magic. This was the additional experience accumulation that was lacking when directly leveling up skills using the Experience Pool.
After numerous failures, the Weasley twins had temporarily given up trying to master the Iron Armor Charm and instead focused their attention on the Unlocking Charm.
After an afternoon of practice, Fred succeeded first. He successfully used the Unlocking Charm to open the drawer lock.
"That's amazing! How did you do it?" George looked at Fred with a hint of envy. His drawer remained motionless.
"See, Fred learned the Unlocking Charm first, so I won," Albert, who was reading a book nearby, blinked at Lee Jordan. He innocently handed a Pepper Imp candy to Lee Jordan, "Here, have it. Wager lost."
"What are you guys betting on?" Fred asked in confusion.
"We're betting on who will master the Unlocking Charm first," Albert said with a smug smile. "If you lose, you have to eat this..."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and pointed at the Pepper Imp candy he bought from Honeydukes.
"Albert is right, wager lost."
George patted his friend's shoulder and looked at him expectantly. Yes, he was really looking forward to Lee Jordan eating that candy and then spewing fire from his nose.
"It's all your fault," Lee Jordan said resentfully, unwrapping the candy and stuffing it into his mouth. His cheeks immediately turned red, and cold sweat formed on his forehead.
The next moment...
"It's so spicy..." When Lee Jordan opened his mouth, a truly spicy flame shot out from his nostrils, instantly splattering George's face.
"You jerk, you definitely did it on purpose," George's face darkened, with a hint of pepper taste lingering.
"Cough, cough," Lee Jordan spewed out a few more flames.
However, after witnessing George's plight, Albert and Fred quickly moved away, fearing they might suffer unjustly.
That guy must have done it on purpose. Yes, that must be it.
A few minutes later, Lee, with a resentful expression, looked at Albert. The taste of pepper hadn't completely dissipated, and his nostrils were still red from spewing fire.
"Next time, I won't bet with you on this," Lee Jordan said grumpily.
"Next time, let's try Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans instead," Albert winked and randomly picked three beans with his eyes closed.
"That's a good idea."
"Aren't you going to continue practicing? Just because you succeeded once doesn't mean you can succeed every time," Albert tossed a chocolate bean into his mouth and started flipping through "19th Century Spells," a book he was already two-thirds through.
"How's your Disillusionment Charm coming along?" Fred changed the subject and asked.
"I haven't fully mastered it yet. That spell is much harder than the Unlocking Charm," Albert glanced at the panel information. He had only 35 experience points for the Disillusionment Charm, and he needed more training to reach 100 points for Level 1.
"Is that spell really that difficult?" George asked skeptically.
"Of course, it's very difficult," Albert couldn't help rolling his eyes. "I heard it's one of the must-learn spells for Aurors. By the way, what is an Auror?"
Of course, Albert knew what an Auror was, but as a voice from the Muggle world, he shouldn't have too much knowledge about the magical world.
"We're doomed!"
"What do you mean, doomed?" Albert asked in confusion.
"We definitely won't learn the Disillusionment Charm this year," the twins couldn't help but wail. It was an essential spell for nocturnal adventures.
