Chapter 1: Shadow Cat and a set up

"Marie!!!" I could hear him scream my name as I fell to the ground in unbearable pain. My vision was hazy as my eyes filled with tears. I could feel more of the warm blood spread through my shirt.

At that moment, the only thing I knew was that this was definitely the end of me, but that is, okay. Seconds later, I felt Shadow's strong pick me up and whisper in my ear, "stay with me, princess, don't leave me, please." His voice called to me in pain and fear. It felt as if time had slowed. I gasped for air, attempting to speak. "I I-love you," were the only words I managed to say before darkness overtook me completely.

A year and a half before

"We are reporting live from The People's Bank of Canada, where just moments ago, the notorious masked criminal Shadow Cat came on the hunt for four men, leaving two dead and the other two critically injured. No one is sure the reason as to why, but witnesses on the scene have said that it appeared to be a robbery gone wrong. Unfortunately, Shadow Cat once again managed to escape. But this time taking 3.5 million dollars with him. Police have reported that no one is certain how he was able to enter and exit the ...."

"And no one will ever catch me." Shadow Cat laughed as he shut off the television. "Almost perfect," he added. He turned and looked towards the backpack full of cash but was interrupted by the sound of a raging voice coming from a nearby room, making him jump up quickly. The man walked into the room yelling, "What the hell were you thinking? Explain to me why the hell are those two are still alive? Your target was to kill all four men, not rob the bank!"

"That was a minor setback, but worry not, they will be taken care of." Shadow Cat replied while staring into the angry eyes of his half older brother and gang leader. "It better be!" the men growled before walking back out.

Night had finally fallen, wrapping the day in its dark blanket. The only light in the sky was that which came from the moon and the flash of lighting. Heavy water drops fell as the raging sound of thunder filled the city. Perfect night to finish the job. Shadow Cat got ready to attack but not before getting dressed in his usual all-black attire. From his head to his toes, black took over and covering half of his face, a black mask laid, making him unrecognized by everyone.

Using his many skills, knowledge of parkour, and incredible speed, Shadow Cat made his way to the hospital unnoticed. Before entering the hospital, he hacked the hospital security cameras and noticed a much-unexpected situation.

Canadian police filled the hospital. They were expecting him. Shadow Cat switched from camera to camera taking notice of the location of every single officer in the hospital. He counted five in the waiting room, two in front of the target's room door, two by each of the exits right and left, and lastly, one more inside the room.

As he searched around the hospital, he thought to himself, 'How did they know I would come by today? It was said to be a robbery. Therefore, how did they know they would need protection? They couldn't have known, not unless... I was set up!'
