I hadn't spoken the words to anyone, ever. Had barely let myself think them. Hadn't even admitted to the fear. No one else had seen the photographs. By the time I knew Erik could get over to that world, I'd known too much and been too afraid. I had only asked him to tell me about the technology so I could understand if the images were real.

But in truth, it didn't matter whether they were or not. What mattered was whether Raymond was telling the truth about them using magic on Zoe—and whether or not my parents had done the same.
