Chapter 148: Straight From the Doll’s Mouth

"Evan!" Eternity shouted worriedly as she pushed the door open.

There he was, sitting on his bed, gazing out the window of his private room. He looked so peaceful, his eyes following the terminally ill children as they ran around the hospital garden, their laughter echoing through the glass. They were enjoying their moments of joy, savoring their last breaths.

Just like he did.

"Evan..." Eternity whispered, her voice quivering as she ran to his bedside. "I'm sorry that it took so long for me to visit you--"

Evan raised his frail index finger and gently pressed it against Eternity's lips. Her moss-green eyes widened in surprise, locking onto his weary yet tender blue gaze. He looked at her with such softness, as if he couldn't get enough of the sight of her.

"I understand, Eternity," he said gently. "I heard that Freiheit, with the help of his connections, stopped you from visiting me here."
