Chapter 6: Chapter 6

"Sir? Are you okay?" Kelvin asked his boss, as soon as he got into the car but got no response from him.

He immediately knew something was wrong. Having been with him for years, he knew something must have happened for Sorin to walk into the car and slam the door the way he did. He also didn't wait for the car door to be opened for him before he entered the car.

Getting no response from Sorin, he didn't want to ask too many questions so that he wouldn't anger him more.

Sorin's phone began to ring but the moment he saw the caller ID, he silenced the phone and looked away.

Kelvin peeped from the front seat and saw the caller too- It was Daisy.

"Sir, your phone has been ringing. Aren't you going to pick it, sir? Kelvin asked, concerned because the phone kept ringing but Sorin wouldn't budge.

Sorin raised his eyebrow and stared at Kelvin with utmost anger which made Kelvin look away immediately.

"Mind your business! If you know what is good for you, you'll drive this minute!" Sorin commanded.

"I'm so sorry, sir." Kelvin swiftly responded.

Daisy kept calling him countlessly until he got irritated by the numerous calls and turned his phone off.

"Sir, where should I drive you to?" Kelvin asked, still avoiding Sorin's piercing eyes.

He got no response and decided to try his luck by asking again but at that moment, his phone vibrated and he picked it instantly.

"Yes?" Kelvin responded to the person on the other end of the call.

"Now?" He continued with his one-word at a time responses.

"Alright, no problem." He finally said and ended the call.

With the line of his job as Sorin's personal assistant and guard, Kelvin knew how to handle high-pressure situations with ease. He knew how to handle serious matters discreetly without giving any information away.

Although he possessed a calm and composed personality, he had a keen eye for detail and because of that, he was always able to anticipate any potential threats to the safety of his boss, Sorin.

He was also the head of all the other guards and they all answered to him. He had the responsibility of scheduling and assigning duties to each guard, ensuring that all areas are covered at all times.

After any assignment, they would bring him feedback on the matter and then he would in turn let Sorin in on the completed assignment. But in rare cases, when certain issues were about to get out of hand, he would immediately inform Sorin so as to know the next line of action.

Sorin paid no attention to his conversation because he was so clouded by his anger. He was now in his own world, he was so focused on his anger and thoughts that he didn't realise Kelvin had been talking to him all along.

"Sir, should I drive you to the hospital?" Kelvin asked him but Sorin still didn't respond.

"Sir?" He asked again, after which he finally got his attention.

"Yes." Sorin answered him, still in his thoughts with his head pushed backwards, resting on the headrest of the seat.

"Should I go there now?" Kelvin asked him, thinking he heard what he said earlier.

"Yes, sure." Sorin replied, having no idea where they were headed.

"Alright sir." Kelvin said, after which he revived the car engine, then off they drove to the hospital.

 ***********

My eyes were shut but I could hear muffled voices of few people talking in hushed tones. I also heard the beeping sound of machines as I tried to figure out where I was. My memory was a mess, I couldn't figure anything out but the smell of certain familiar drugs made me realise I was at the hospital.

"This sure smells like a hospital." I thought to myself.

"But how did I get here? Was I involved in an accident? Did someone beat me up?" I kept asking myself various questions in my head while my eyes were still firmly shut because I was so weak.

I now began to hear those voices in the room again.

"This good-for-nothing girl just wants to disgrace us, she just wants to bring shame to this family." The middle aged female voice said, trying to whisper but it was loud enough for me to hear.

"Honey, calm down. I understand you and I'm mad at her as well, we just need to be patient so that the company can get back on its feet, then we'll do what we have planned." The male voice responded.

"Shhhhhhhhh… What if she hears you?" The female voice said, trying to stop him from saying too much.

"And what if she does? There's nothing she can do, she's very helpless. Also, she's still unconscious, so she can't hear anything." The male voice said after moving towards me to confirm if I was awake or not.

The voices I was hearing came from a corner in the room and from their voices, I could figure out what they were saying and I also knew who they were -They were my parents.

"What exactly did I do to these people that they hate me so much?" I asked myself.

It was like I was just a tool in their hands, to be used to get whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted.

"What did I do to deserve this much hatred?" I said to myself but quickly composed myself because I was about to start crying again.

They stopped talking when a nurse came in to check me but I heard my mum pretend as if she was crying.

"Is my baby going to be fine?" She asked the nurse, pretending to be concerned.

"Yes, ma'am. She will be fine, she only needs to rest for now. The doctor will come to check her very soon." The nurse responded.

"Thank goodness. Thank you so much, nurse." She thanked the nurse and I could feel her hand on my body.

I no longer knew what a mother's touch felt like, I didn't know if it was supposed to be warm, hot or cold but I just didn't feel anything when she touched me. She had not been a true mother to me, all she did over the years was call me names and insult me like I had killed her in her previous life.

I summoned courage to speak to her one day and I asked her if I had offended her in any way but she chased me out like a dog and the hatred increased.

Immediately the nurse stepped out of the room, she swiftly withdrew her hand from my body and I could hear her wipe off her fake tears.

"You know you're such an actress. Just look at the show you just pulled up here." My dad teased her.

"Well, you know me, I'm always ready for anything, any day and any time." She responded and they both giggled quietly.

"When do you think she's going to wake up?" She asked my dad.

"Who knows? All I'm concerned about is that she should wake up as soon as possible so that everything will go as planned. No useless person will ruin our plans." He said firmly.

"Maybe I should just wake her up by myself because I don't understand this kind of sleep, for the past 9 hours." He said to my mum.

"I think that would be a good idea." She answered him.

As his footsteps got closer to my bed, I felt his presence very close to me but as he was about to touch me, the door opened and the doctor walked in.

"What is going on here, sir?" The doctor asked but dad was too dumbfounded to answer and mum immediately came to his rescue.

"He was trying to adjust her head, there was also a little sweat on her forehead, he was trying to clean it too." Mum said, defending him.

"Oh! I thought the air conditioner was on." The doctor said while looking at the air-conditioner which was truly on but was low.

He then shrugged and brought out his stethoscope to check my heart beat, after which he looked at my parents.

"Did you do anything to her?" He asked them.

"Do anything? What could we possibly do to our daughter?" My mum asked.

"Well, I don't know, it's just that something is strange.
