ARES'S POV

I didn’t know what she expected me to say. I hadn’t put much thought into what we were or where this was heading. I enjoyed her and she enjoyed me, that was as far as I thought about it. I was never the type to date. That’s why I pretended to be in a relationship with Christina for so long.

“Forget I asked, it was stupid anyway,” she said.

Her back faced me, but I already knew what she was feeling. I could hear her thoughts taking over my own and I couldn’t lose her. I couldn’t allow her to leave with the thought that I didn’t care about her at all. I wasn’t sure if this was love or infatuation, but I knew it was more than lust. From the moment she burst into my office it was more than that, Leilani meant more to me than that.

“Leilani, wait,” I called after her.

All I knew was that she couldn’t leave. Why? I had no idea, but everything in me screamed to hold her tight and never let her go.
