ARES’S POV

I wanted to wait for Leilani to reach out to me. I continued staring at my phone hoping she’d return a phone call or at least a text message, but she had done neither. I was more certain than ever that Christina had gotten to her. I wasn’t sure how Christina did it, but she managed to get to Leilani before I could.

I picked up my phone and tried to give her phone another call, but it went straight to voicemail. Her bubbly voice filled my ears as she once again requested that I leave a voicemail. What I had to say I couldn’t say over the phone; it was too impersonal when what I had to say to her was very much personal.

“She still didn’t answer?” Carlos asked.
