Lyra's POV

Just then I heard Damien's scream. I looked up to see Damien being bound to a wooden pole and slashed many times by some other people. They quickly licked out the blood that came out from his body as if it were some sort of intoxicating drug.

I became enraged. "Let go of me this instant before I do anything to you" I shouted but the lady didn't budge and only laughed at me.

"Libera me vinculis, libera me his compedibus" I chanted and the chains broke into two. The lady's eyes widened but before she could do anything, I held her by the neck and threw her into the crowd.

I jumped and arrived at where Damien was and in anger, I snapped the necks of those that were hurting him in two, killing them in the process.
