Chapter 3: The Present

ELENA

I hurriedly stuffed the food into my mouth. I wanted to finish the food so that I can leave the dinning because I was uncomfortable with the way they were all staring at me.

Suddenly, Diana slammed the fork on her plate loudly, and shouted coldly at me. "What kind of food did you even make? This is so tasteless, and disgusting!"

I arched my eyebrows in confusion. I thought her husband just commended my cooking. Why then is she calling what I just prepared disgusting?

"What are you still standing there for? Do you want me to throw this garbage of a food all over your face before you can realize that I want you to make something else?" She shouted at me banging the table, and I jerked up immediately.

"Sorry..." I mumbled. That's the only thing I'm allowed to say anyway.

"Get me omelette right now" She ordered, and I nodded my head walking out of the dinning table immediately.

After leaving for the kitchen, I heard them talking to each other in a hushed tone. I decided to keep it down so that I could hear what they were talking about.

"Why are you making things difficult for her? Have you forgotten that we have to make her agree to marry Alpha Xander in place of Monica? Don't you think we should treat her a little nicer than we used to? What if she refuses to substitute our Monica?" Blake whispered, and I could hear Diana scoff.

"She dares not. She has to agree, I don't care whether she keeps behaving like we're forcing her to marry the Alpha" Diana replied with an emotionless tone of voice.

I sighed softly, and focused on the omelette I was preparing for Diana. I should be used to this kind of treatment already.

"Stop it you all!" I heard Monica's yell. She banged the table angrily. They turned to her, and she stood up glaring at her parents.

"We're forcing her to marry that demon, and here you are making things tougher for her Mom. It's only making me feel guilty. Don't you understand that she's only taking my place? She's just my substitute, and you're treating her the way you just did, makes me feel awful" Monica cried out.

I paused what I was doing, and I didn't even realize that a smile escaped my lips. Should I even be smiling in such a situation?

I walked out of the kitchen with a tray containing the omelette that Diana asked for. I saw Monica rush upstairs in tears the moment she looked at me.

Furthermore, I didn't see how vicious and smug she smiled behind the door the moment she shut it. She was apparently pulling off a sisterly attitude just to deceive me into believing she's on my side.

Anyway, I felt at least there was someone in the house who is on my side. Monica, she's my best friend.

Diana spooned the omelette into her mouth, and I stared at her earnestly praying I won't get anymore scolding from her. Well, this time she didn't shout at me or compliment me.

"It's not worst like the other one" She spoke to her husband who shrugged.

I know fully well that Diana seems to hate me more in the house. She only sees me as a slave that will serve her family till death, so the fact that I'm getting married is bad news to her. Who would do the house chores the slave does?

After breakfast, I made sure I finished all the house chores that I was supposed to take care of before knitting. Well, I forgot to let you know that I've made knitting my hobby since I didn't have any friend.

I walked back to my kitchen utility room, and started knitting. I was making a pink purse for Monica since pink was her favorite color.

Likewise, I was almost done with the purse when I heard a faint knock on my door. My heart skipped a beat immediately. I know that each time I hear a knock on my door, it's either they want me to do something for them, or that I got into trouble. I struggled up from the worn-out mattress, and clicked open the doorknob.

To my greatest surprise, it was Monica standing in front of my door. I was surprised because she has never stepped her foot to the kitchen utility area, so her actions surprised me.

"Monica?" I narrowed my eyes, and she smiled faintly staring around in disgust. I don't blame her, she hasn't been here ever.

"Uhm... Would you please step out of the room for a minute? Okay, I have a surprise for you. I'm sure you'll be excited to see it" She giggled, and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"A surprise? What...." I was still speaking when she grabbed me by my wrist, and ran off, I followed her immediately.

She opened her room, and I walked into the link decorated room. This is the true definition of a princess-like room.

"Sit here let me show you something" She pointed to her European style princess bed.

"I should...???" I asked in shock, and she scoffed shaking her head.

"Go on and sit down" She snapped, and I reluctantly sat on the bed with a faint smile. She brought out a big box, and placed it on her bed. I stared at the box in confusion. What surprise was she talking about?

"Open it!" She giggled at me, and I gulped hard. I was feeling very nervous. I just hope she doesn't gift me something very expensive again, because if her mother finds out, I'd be in trouble.

"Are you sure Monica?" I bit my fingers in anxiety, and she nodded her head in agreement.

I reluctantly opened the box. It was a long, blue gown. It has a veil like structure, and sparkling crystal were embedded on it. There was a diamond sparkling heels beside it. My jaw dropped....
