I groaned in pain as I felt my body slam against the back seat after I was jostled around the mountain paths.
Thankfully, the seat belt held firm, if not I might find myself with a lot more broken limbs than I was comfortable with.
I heaved a sigh of relief. "At least we're fine now." We weren't careening off a cliff, even if our car was damaged. Surely we could still fix it. I would take whatever victories I could get.
As if the gods above heard my words and decided to taunt me, the car bonnet immediately burst into flames.
"Fuck, we need to get out of here, it's gonna blow!" Blaise swore, and the three of us made a mad dash from the car, running like the wind. Blaise all but carried me in his arms, sprinting across the forest floor with no care for poor Darach.
Then, our car exploded. I heard the loud boom first before I even caught sight of the car going up in flames, with the brightness of a homing beacon to our location.
