The word snapped Clyde back to reality. With a shocked gasp, he withdrew his hand, horrified by what he had almost done. 

He immediately pulled Morgan into a tight embrace, holding the boy close as if to shield him from the darkness that had momentarily consumed him.

"Sorry…" The Alpha mumbled under his breath, his voice shaky. He heaved a heavy sigh, his heart pounding with the realization of how close he had come to losing himself entirely.

How could he have done that? How could he have even thought of harming this innocent child for his own ambitions? 

The enormity of his near action weighed heavily on him, a stark reminder of the fine line he was treading.

Without further ado, Clyde carried Morgan with him out of the room. "It's time for you to sleep," he said, his voice gentle yet firm as he strode past the bowing guards in the hallway.
