The small doctor heaved a deep sigh after he waved at the car that brought Michael and Ryley's new guard away from his front yard. 

He rummaged through his coat's pocket for the key but then accidentally dropped it. Alex bent down and picked it up from the floor, but then the sound of footsteps climbing his doorstep halted his movement.

A looming shadow towered over his petite figure in no time, and when he slowly turned his head to look at who it was, Alex dropped the key in his hand.
