Chapter 10: BESTFRIEND
Shanaia Aira's Point of View
" Morning baby!" Gelo greeted me warmly. He go straight to my bed and lie down. He is staring intently at me as I comb my hair in front of my vanity mirror.
"Why are you here, didn't you go to school?" I asked.
" I'm going to drive you to school today, brother Andrew needs to go to the municipality early because it's Monday. And besides I've given you my class schedule so you should know that my class starts at 10am. "
"Hahaha. It's just a joke. I know you're the one who will drive me to school today because your daddy bought you your own car and you wanted to impress me with it. Am I right Gelo?"
" How do you know? You have a strong radar. Its my surprise to you but it seems like I'm the one who got surprised here. " he said.
" Haha..I just talked to your mom last night, and she mentioned it."
" Geez, my mom's really nosy . Are you not done yet? You are beautiful already so you don't need to fix up properly. Maybe later in school your boy classmates will try to impress you again, mark my word, I won't let them pass this time."
" There he goes again. The jealous best friend. And where's the beauty you are saying? "
" Tsk. Tsk. She no longer had any confidence in herself. And hey, I'm not jealous. I am territorial. It only sucks when you know someone or something is not yours. In my case, I'm territorial because I'm just protecting what is mine. " he said with a smirk. Oh this guy, he's fooling on me again.
" Wow! Your words made me tremble. Are you drunk? Anyway, come on, let me have a great experience with your new car. " I said with a wide smile on my lips.
A shiny, new car is what I saw outside our gate. Charcoal gray in color and as handsome as the owner. Actually, this was a graduation gift given to him by his dad but he didn't get it immediately until his license was fixed. Though he already know how to drive but he wouldn't be allowed far away because he didn't have a license yet.
" You were the first one to rode there. And no one else will sit here in front but you.That's the best friend seat. Only for Shanaia Aira Gallardo." he said.
" Duh, you know so much. How about when you already have girlfriend, where will she sits? " I asked him with my brow arched.
He was driving out of our village when he answered my question.
" Baby, I don't need a girlfriend. You're enough for me."
" Hey Mr. Montero, a bestfriend is way different from a girlfriend. There are things that your girlfriend can do to you that your bestfriend can't, and you know what I mean."
" Baby, I'm okay with you. We hug, we hold hands,we comfort each other in times of troubles, we eat together and sometimes sleep together.We do a lot of things together. So what more can I ask for? You know my flaws and my weaknesses, with you I don't need to hide anything, I'm not ashamed to tell you what I want to say. You take good care of me too. So why do I need to find for a girlfriend? When I'm already satisfied to have a best friend like you. " he said with a huge smile.
" Gelo I'm just your bestfriend. I can't give you what a girlfriend can give . I mean, you have needs as a man and definitely I can't give you that."
" Why do I feel like you're pushing me to have a girlfriend? Are you sick and tired of me? or you wanted to have a boyfriend that's why your pushing me to have one?" he is pissed already. The atmosphere between us seemed to be warming.
" Wait a minute Gelo. It's not what you think it is. I'm just saying the difference from just a bestfriend to a girlfriend. I'm not even saying that you should have a girlfriend. I just asked you that if ever you had a girlfriend, where is her seat? You already gave me the seat that's intended for her. Do we have a problem here? "
He heaved a sigh. He took my hand then intertwined our fingers. He look me straight in the eye.
" Sorry baby.I just don't like the idea of having another woman beside me aside from you, the same thing with I don't like seeing you with any other man." he said and that made my heart beats fast.
I just nodded.Gelo is really one hell of a possessive guy..
" Alright ! Let's not talk about it.If that's what you want then I'm fine with it.You might be upset again." I said with a sweet smile.
He just gave me his sweetest smile. That killer smile is his weapon against me, he knew that my annoyance would easily melts with that one smile.
Finally we got to school. Before I got off his car, he told me a lot of reminders. Gelo was so caring. What if he became my boyfriend? Maybe I would tremble to death because of his sweetness.
Oh my! What am I thinking? You may have forgotten that he is your best friend Shanaia Aira.Your BESTFRIEND, in capital letters so that it will be clear to you and you won't forget.
When I entered our school premises, he went straight to his school although it's still early. He was still in the same school where he was enrolled in college. He never transfered to other school so that he was still near my school. Even his schedule was synchronised with mine. Gelo is really too much of a clingy person.
That's our everyday routine. He made his job to deliver me to school in the morning and fetch me in the afternoon.It's a good thing that my brother took again Mang Simon as his driver or else he has lost his job since Gelo took over.
It's semestral break again. Luckily, Gelo and I have the same day of vacation so he goes with us in the US to visit Shane. Dindin is a big kid now. She can walk on her own and can talk. When Gelo and I go out for a walk, we took Dindin to be with us. Gelo and I were both kid friendly that's why Dindin became spoiled by both of us.
One afternoon, I was resting on the couch after I tucked Dindin to her bed. I glanced at Gelo as he goes down the stairs. He approached me as soon as he saw me. I stared at him as he stood in front of me. He was so cute in his pink long sleeves he wore that was folded up to his elbow with white t-shirt inside and brown pants. He matched it with brown top siders for his footwear.
" Are you done checking me out? "
I just smiled at him. " Where are you going?"
" Get dressed, let's go somewhere. "
" Why? am I naked? " I joked as I stared at my light yellow tube dress.
"Oh not that one, it's too revealing." Filled with disgust he looked at me. Very conservative indeed.
" Alright, just wait, I'll change." I said and quickly climbed the stairs.
After a few minutes, I went down. He was sitting on the couch and holding a book.When he looked at me, he seems mesmerized. Maybe I'm too beautiful.Charot!
I didn't strip the yellow tube dress, instead I just wore a denim jacket and I only wore a high cut Chuck Taylor in color blue. My clothes were very simple but this handsome guy in front of me was already in dazed. If he reacts like this every time I wear this, I will never ever strip it off my body.
Haha.. so boisterous!
We just walked and came to a park.We sat near a tree next to the fountain.He handed me his book. I chuckled because I saw a letter stucked in the book. When I looked at him to ask questions, he was intently staring at me, looking at how I would react to the letter I saw.
" What's this Gelo? I asked while I wave the letter in front of him.
" It's a lyrics of a song.I wrote a song for someone very special." he smiled and his eyes were still shining. He has someone special? Why did I find it out just now? At the thought of it, I felt a sudden pain in my heart.
"She must be really special for you to do that." there's a bit bitterness on my voice. Hopefully he won't notice it.
" Oh yes she is.You wanna read my composition ? " he asked.
" No, if you want to, read it for me. "I returned the paper with the lyrics. I don't know why I'm upset. Maybe it's because I'm used to being the only one in his world but now he wrote a song for someone.
" Okay, I read the lyrics for you.Tell me if she will like this song? " he smiled with a hint of annoyance.
I sighed.I'm so annoyed and it seems like he's also annoying me..It's annoying!
What the hell Shanaia Aira! It's so annoying as you say the word repeatedly.
Why is that?
Hmp! Never mind.
" Alright! " I answered lazily.

My heart beats faster than the usual. Why did he wrote that song? Why are the lyrics meant for a friend? Is that for me?
Hey! Shanaia Aira, you assumed too much. Maybe he befriended that special someone and they are friends now. When he said friend, it doesn't mean its you right away. You are so delusional.
Hmp. This conscience is always scolding me!
" Okay Gelo, it's good. I'm pretty sure that someone special of yours will like it. " I forced to smile.
" You sure baby? " he asked with a cute smile.
"Yeah! When will you give it to her?" I asked.
Soon! " he then smiled and winked at me.
Why do I feel like he is so happy while my heart is bleeding.
Am I in love with my bestfriend?
