Chapter 19: 19. The Mysterious Merus
CHAPTER XIX: THE MYSTERIOUS MERUS
Without a proper breakfast, Freya took me to the bad side of town. An almost law less area on the very south edge of the city.
The streets filled with beggars and homeless people. The buildings are rundown and about to collapse. As we walked on the dirt road, the people eye us up and down.
Soon we appear to reach our destination. An old wooden shack by the south gate and just bordering the city wall. Freya proceeds to walk up and knock on the door.
"Merus are you home!?" She called.
Next moment someone started to walk around in the worn out shack. I could just hear their footsteps as they approached the door. The door swings open and reveals an elderly man in dirty robes.
"My dear Freya! What brings you to this part of town!? I imagine your father wouldn't be so pleased to know you're walking around these parts!" He greeted.
As he stepped out, an awful stink hit my nose. I don't know what it is but I also don't want to know.
"He's too busy with the inn to keep tabs on me!" She answers.
"Indeed! My brother always was the type!" He replied.
Well I guess that makes sense. They do somehow look alike but how is he so old? Her dad is probably in his forties but this dude looks like he's in his eighties. Maybe more like nineties.
"I'm not really here on personal business!" She said and glanced over to me.
He immediately eyes me up and down. Somehow he isn't just looking at me but through me. Like Kaku and his group.
"Hmmm..." He grunted as he slowly walked around. Scanning my entire body.
"Not a single drop of mana in you!" He said.
Well I already knew that. I chose not to have mana when I came here.
"Yet immense physical strength!" He continued.
I already know that too. His eyes suddenly widened when he noticed something.
"You must be a rookie! Fighting a bunch of sex craved Goblins with no protection!"
What the hell!? "How did you know that!?" I demand. He simply smiled at me.
"Goblins around these parts always catch a particular type of parasite." He begins. "This particular parasite is like a Super Aphrodisiac that enhances your sex drive ten fold."
From his robes he took out a small jae with tiny worm like creatures.
"From what I can smell on you, you fought a horde of them. Their goblins got absorbed into you and turned you into a sex beast. Am I correct in assuming as much?" I simply nodded.
He was right on the mark. I was literary bathed in their blood. This guy gets more interesting with every second that passes. I'm guessing he's some kind of exper that's cursed or fallen on hard times. Or he's just crazy and this is all just coincidence.
"So how long will this Last?" I asked.
"The parasites simply die off if you avoid sex for a week, or you can get a healer. That might be harder given there are none in this small little kingdom of ours." He explained.
Well I can go a few days without sex, I already went more than a month without.
"No sex is the logical choice here!" I said to him. He then turned to Freya with a worried look.
"Does your father know?" He asked.
"No... It only happened last night and uhm... things are a bit complicated." She explained.
"Complicated? Well make sure he knows before he finds out. Trust me when I say my brother has eyes and ears all over the Rostalio." He warns.
I get the feeling he was also warning me. I am a bit curious of this though. Even Helena warned about the scrawny innkeeper.
"What exactly is the deal with your father? Is he somekind of retired veteran S-class adventurer or something?" I asked.
They both seemed surprised for a moment. Their surprised faces turn to fear and sadness.
"I'm guessing you are not from Rostalio!" Merus said.
"Everyone born here or had lived here long enough knows about 'Erikson the Giant' of Rostalio." Freya adds.
Interesting title from that scrawny looking man. Although he is quite tall at 8ft.
"You guessed correctly to say he was an S-class but his strength was beyond that. Just 3 years ago he was considered the strongest in all of Rostalio. Even above his long time friends Kail and Raku. Back then he could hold his own against Imperial Magic Knights!" Merus adds.
