Chapter 7: 6.

Lin FenXiang's eyebrows flew up, he pursed his lips and answered the call.

Taking the phone to his ear, he asked in a low voice, "Sergeant Xiao? What's the matter if I may ask?"

"Captain Lin," the Sergeant replied from the line. "I'm sorry to bother you in your retirement! But the department is very anxious at the moment?"

Lin FenXiang frowned, "Whatever is the reason?"

"Can I ask Captian's location right now?"

"Why, I'm at JiangXing Entertainment on West Street."

"Perfect!" Sergeant Xiao exclaimed, his voice laced in relief. "I shouldn't be asking you for this but I have to, Captain."

"Just say it. No need to go over civilities."

"At the mole 500 metres to the west in Aidu mall there's a dangerous situation which needs urgent professional assistance."

"What's the situation?" Lin FenXiang asked, apologising to Assistant Zhou for cutting the trip short, he walked to the lift.

"There's a commotion because two runaway fugitives are spotted in the mall. One of them is after his ex-wife who's also present there," Sergeant Xiao replied. "The ex-wife had filed a restraining order against her ex-husband and the two fugitives are armed. Can Captain assist this matter?"

Lin FenXiang nodded coldly, "I don't have much choice now do I?" He then hung up the call and made a run for the location sent to him.

And then he remembered, he hadn't asked the exact location of the fugitives.

Lin FenXiang gritted his teeth and ran faster, zooming past the pedestrians without so much as an apology.

Panting, he stopped at the entrance of the mall and ran up the escalator. The people around him looked at his covered face in bewilderment.

Lin FenXiang ran upto the second floor and looked around but found nothing out of the ordinary.

Just as he was walking — running— up the escalator leading to the third floor he heard a commotion at the food court below.

Leaning into the rails, he took a look at the situation and found exactly what he was looking for.

In the food court below, many people were standing far off from the three people standing at the cusp of the situation.

At the centre, there were two men and a woman. The woman had her hands raised in surrender as one of the men pointed the revolver in his hand at her forehead.

His gruff voice resounded in the tense silence, "Don't move you bitch! You dared to file a restraining order against me?"

Among the people standing there, no one came to the woman's rescue, some of them even had their phone's pointed in there direction.

Thankfully, someone had informed the authorities. Lin FenXiang looked at the situation stolidly.

The place he stood at was directly above the location where the three of them stood. The armed men even had their backs to the place directly below the rails.

Lin FenXiang sneered in his hurt and jumped over the rails. His landing was smooth and nearly soundless. Despite being behind the armed man at a little distance, the man or his companion holding the woman hostage didn't notice his presence at all.

Without any ounce of mercy in his actions, Lin FenXiang lunged at the other man — the one without a hostage — and chopped at the back of his neck mercilessly.

Only when the man dropped to the floor, did the man holding the woman notice him and tightened his grip on her.

"Wha— who the fuck are you?" He backed away, dragging his ex-wife with him. "Don't you dare touch me, I'll shoot!" He pointed the muzzle threateningly.

Lin FenXiang calmly stepped towards him. The fugitive's eyes shone with fear as he gulped.

"Didn't you hear me?"

"No," Lin FenXiang answered calmly. "Let her go and we are good." He smiled under the mask.

"Fuck off! This is my matter!"

"Please— please save me!" The woman begged. "I have to go back to my son!"

Lin FenXiang took another step forward.

"I'll fuckin' blow off her head!"

Lin FenXiang sneered, "You can try."

The man put his finger on the trigger and just as he was about to pull it, something flew through the air and towards him, hitting his wrist ruthlessly.

The revolver flew out of his hand and the woman took the opportunity to run away from him.

And there was just a pen lying innocently at his feet. The man broke into cold sweat and then he attacked the untimely saviour.

Lin FenXiang smoothly wove through his punches and dodged the kicks thrown his way. Then, a punch aimed at his chest flew to him.

Lin FenXiang swiftly seized the opponents wrist and turned it clockwise, not giving the man to pull away. He steps back a little, pulling his opponent off-balance and mercilessly strikes at his elbow with his free arm. He then forced the man to face the ground by twisting his left arm, accompanied by the sound of cracking.

Stepping on his back harshly, Lin FenXiang opened faintly, "I told you, no need to mess around." Picking up the discarded revolver he inspected it with interest. "It's been some time since I've touched guns." He grinned under the mask.

Pointing the gun at his side, he pulled the hammer and then the trigger. The sound of a gunshot was soon followed by the sound of floor shattering.

Without looking at the direction of the shot, Lin FenXiang hummed. "You want to leave, but did I say you are allowed to?"

The other fugitive, who'd woken up at some point of time, fell to the floor, with his legs soft and powerless, staring at the hole created by the bullet.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He yelled. "Let, let me go! Please!" Lin FenXiang turned to him, lowered the revolver and tilted his head to the side.

A heavy silence lapsed in the food court.

Lin FenXiang watched the man breakdown in silence and then nodded, "I'm not going to do anything." He spoke harmlessly whilst tightening his grip on the man beneath his foot.

"I'm just doing my job. Oh, the police are here," he took his foot off the fallen man and pulled his limp body up. "Get up."

"See," he added icily. "I'm completely harmless." The police came rushing to the place. He pulled down his mask and nodded in greeting towards a young looking man, who was Sergeant Xiao.

"I did what you asked me to, Sergeant."

"Thank you, thank you Captain Lin," Sergeant Xiao thanked earnestly. "I don't know what we'd have done I'd not for your help." He extended his hand for a shake.

Lin FenXiang looked at his hand and then shook it, handing the revolver to the Sergeant he nodded. "My pleasure, Sergeant. You should take them away, the Miss probably got a scare from all this. I'll leave soon too."

"Yes, yes." The Sergeant nodded his head like a chick picking grains.

Soon, the two fugitives were apprehended and taken with them. Just as they were being dragged away, the ex-husband looked back.

Feeling the stare, Lin FenXiang turned to him, he showed a shallow smile and then waved at him.

Frightened, the man hurriedly looked away, not daring to hold the devilish gaze of the noble looking young man any longer.

Shaking his head, Lin FenXiang turned around, preparing to leave. Then, he saw the crowd of people looking at him in complete utter silence with their mobile phones pointed at him.

Then, one of the cameras flashed and then another and another. Irritated a little, he blocked the flashes with his hand and walked out of the food court.

This time, he hadn't punched anyone but he thought it was better to buy a pair of knuckle gloves for future.

Who could guarantee that things like this won't happen again?

Lin FenXiang sighed, fixed his mask and walked in the direction of hand wears.

At this time, he didn't know the storm he'd set off on the social media.

Weibo blew up that day. However, unaware of the storm he started, Lin FenXiang calmly took a cab to the company.

As soon as he stood in front of the entrance, he saw Lin FengYuan standing at the door with his arms crossed over his chest.

Lin FenXiang's steps paused as he looked into his brother's eyes who deadpanned at him.

"Wh..at?"

Lin FengYuan snorted and shoved his phone at his face, "Look at this!" He scrunched up his nose. "I look away for a moment and you do the worst thing possible." Slowly massaging his temple, he sighed.

Lin FenXiang grimaced slightly, "What do you mean?"

"Look at this! You dared jump from a floor above? So daring!" Lin FengYuan gnashed his teeth.

Lin FenXiang pursed his lips into a thin line and looked away guiltily. "I'm sorry."

Lin FengYuan scoffed and walked past him, throwing a short sentence his way. "Follow me, we are going to the set."

"Where?"

"Hengdian, obviously." Lin FenXiang nodded docilely and followed after him.

On the way, while sitting inside the car in between Zhou YiHan and his brother, Lin FenXiang tried to defend himself.

"I was just doing my duty?" He said weakly. "Retirement doesn't mean that the department won't need my help and I did what I was supposed to." Lin FengYuan sighed.

"But that doesn't mean you can do things like these!"

Lin FenXiang frowned but did not argue. "I'm sorry…"

"You better," Lin FengYuan smiled coldly.

"What set are we going to?"

"We are going to check the set of 'Fate of the ruler'," Assistant Zhou answered calmly.

"Then why did you drag me with you?"

"Because, apparently you need to be supervised."

Lin FenXiang fell silent.

After nearly ten minutes of stifling silence, Lin FenXiang said weakly, "Brother, can I… um, go to the shooting range?"

"What?!" Lin FengYuan nearly blew up. "Why do you want that??"

Lin FenXiang sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, "Today I realised that I can't just rely on hand-to-hand combat in face of armed opponents, can I?"

"I do have to practise my marksmanship," He added. "So cover for me, yeah?"

Lin FengYuan's face darkened but he nodded nonetheless, "That's true… You can go, I guess."

Lin FenXiang's lips curled into a slight smile, he nodded to Lin FengYuan in thanks.

"Here we are," Driver said.

"Now get off the car," Lin FengYuan ordered irritably. "YiHan you too, please." His voice softened noticeably when he spoke to the Assistant.

Lin FenXiang raised an eyebrow and got out of the car, feeling the difference in treatment.

He then took off his mask and walked into the set.

"Why are you here?!"
