Jack arrived at the hotel, the imposing structure casting shadows on the sidewalk. He briskly descended from his car, anticipation building as he crossed the threshold into the lobby.

After talking to Lily minutes ago, he was looking forward to seeing her face and stealing little kisses from her.

His fingers fumbled in his pocket for the familiar weight of his phone, and with swift motions, he dialed Lily's number. The rhythmic ringing was abruptly replaced by Lily's voice.

"I am in the room, come and pick me up," she said, her words carrying an unusual hint of restraint. It didn't sound like her voice at all.

Jack, attributing it to a possible cold, shrugged off the peculiar tone. As he neared the reception, an unexpected interruption halted his progress. The receptionist, with an inquisitive gaze, called him back.

"Who are you looking for?" she inquired.
