Chapter 1: Taka
The story of Scar and Mufasa is very familiar to most. Scar killed his brother out of greed and jealousy. He sent hyenas to kill Mufasa's son: Simba. Although killing Simba was unsuccessful, he took over the Pride Lands and wreaked havoc until Simba came back. Scar was not the first one. This is the story about a lion named Taka who did terrible things for what he thought were the right reasons.
Taka's POV
Everyone calls me Usaliti, which means treachery in Swahili. Everyone always knows me as that ruthless lion that killed his brother over greed and jealousy. Nobody knows how much pain I went through. Nobody understands that the good guys are never as they seem. Mtukufu was not a great king. Jasiri was never a hero. Ndogo wasn't just some bird who became the king's advisor. It was all just a farce. A way for people to make assumptions without ever digging deeper. People never knew all the pain that my family had caused me. It was just easier for people to tell a different story. A story where I became the bad guy.
It's a lonely world out there. These animals that roam the Pride Lands and all the grass that grows so green, it's all just a front. The hyenas are hiding out beyond the land of green and are waiting for a perfect moment to attack all these animals. The lions are trying their best not to kill every creature in their sight.This green and happiness is all just to cover up the despair and desolate souls that roam the Pride Lands. No one is happy. No one wants to be here. Animals are anticipating their last breath. Sometimes I try to look beyond the sun. I try to see if there is anything past the life I only know. Is there someplace out there where one can truly be happy? Are there other creatures out there who are thriving, living a life without pain and heartache? Does one ever find true happiness?
My father, Adahari, is king of the Pride Lands. He is supposed to protect everything that touches the light. One day, when my father passess, my elder brother, Mtukufu, will become king. Where does that leave me? I am head of the Lion Guard.
Centuries ago, the lions wanted to prey endlessly on animals. They hunted antelope for satisfaction and held competitions to see who could kill the most animals. Of course, none of the animals were ok with this but what could they do? Nobody could fight the lions, and the tigers, leopards, cheetahs, and panthers could not care less as long as the lions left enough food for them as well. One lion, Kiango never wanted to hunt or kill anyone for fun. He believed the lions should take only what they needed. Kinago suggested that the lions crown themselves and become the kings and Queens of the Pride Lands. He knew that they'd agree. He wanted to become king so he could regulate how much the lions were eating. The lions agreed and with months of convincing, he finally became the first ever King of the Pride Lands. From the get go, Kiango started to restrict how many animals the lions were allowed to kill. This resulted in a civil war. Some lions believed he had no right to tell them when and how much they could kill. Other lions realized that wiping out species of animals just because was wrong and that Kiango was doing the right thing. Lions were always fighting. Kiango couldn't properly rule because of the corruption between the lions. At one point the other cat species started to pick sides until it was army against army.
The hyenas always wanted control over the Pride Lands, but no one ever liked them so naturally, no one cared what the hyenas did and they became outcast. The civil war became a perfect opportunity for the hyenas to take the lion's place at the top. Hyenas invaded Pride Rock and took control of the Pride Lands. The lions knew that they all had to work together if they wanted control again. Lions convinced the rest of the animals to join them in a revolt. The strongest, fastest, and bravest cats came together to form the Lion Guard. The Lion Guard was an army of the best cats put together to defeat their enemies. Soon enough, the Lion Guard went to war with the hyenas. Many were lost in battle. One of them being Kiango. Kiango died along with the leader of the hyenas, Thimba. Lions took their place at the top again and negotiated a deal about the hunting of other animals. Kiango was revered as the greatest lion to ever live. That point in time became known as The Division. Animals have lived in harmony ever since and the second born of every king is the head of the Lion Guard.
Since then, every leader of the Lion Guard receives the "Roar of the Elders" as a rite of passage. The Roar of the Elders gives anyone who possesses it the wisdom, strength, and power over an enemy. All a lion needs to do is roar and his or her ancestors' souls will fill him with their spirit and help him do whatever it is that he wants to accomplish. If for the benefit of others, the Roar of the Elders can give you the strength to wipe out hundreds of thousands of animals or give you the wisdom to make what others would deem as impossible decisions.
I will be inducted soon as leader of the Lion Guard. I don't even want to be a part of the royal family. I want to explore like the other animals. I want to find the happiness that lies beyond. This is not the life I chose, but it is the life I must live.

AMRA Hello Everyone! This is my first fan fiction. As I watched the Lion King, I realized that no one ever talks about Scar. Instead of writing about Scar, I decided to make a story about Scar's predecessor Taka. Taka was a lion with a bright future, but threw it all away. I hope you enjoy!
