Another month had come and gone, Jake watched his small empire grow even more, his soldiers now accounted for a small city's worth, with a complete complement of armor units, with a mix of newer styles thanks to his gacha draws.
Thanks to the draws the local base defense had been handed over to a pair of Peacekeepers, Infantry units from the 3rd game, they boast the strongest defensive capabilities out of all the infantry units thanks to their heavy armor, riot shields and shotguns.
The other great advancement came again thanks to the gacha system in the way of a pair of engineer draws.
The first was an Allied Engineer from the 2nd game, while the other was an Imperial Engineer from the 3rd game.
Their levels of knowledge were orders of magnitude greater than his engineering corp from the first game, but given the lore of the game this made sense, since the first game would be set in the 50's, the 2nd in the 70's and the 3rd somewhere in the 90's or 2000's.
Given the rapid growth in human technology each of these 20 year jumps would be a massive boon of knowledge for these engineers.
And thanks to the engineers not being locked down, they could attend classes hosted by the new engineers to learn more and eventually assist in building and developing this new technology.
The most important was the Imperial Engineer as thanks to the superior technology of the Empire of The Rising Sun, this engineer had knowledge far surpassing that of even the Allied or Soviet engineers of his time.
Specifically on the subject of nanotechnology, and molecular quantum physics.
Left to their own devices these egg-heads who can talk your mind into a meltdown within seconds could eliminate our need to farm at all as they were working on creating methods to replicate food by shifting the molecular structure of object to change what they were.
But for now, they helped in increasing the efficiency and production rate of the existing systems within the base.
On top of these engineers, we also got another number of units, most were still from the first game but there was a mix of 2nd game and another 3rd game unit thrown in.
The 2nd game units weren't anything much to write home about, well I guess one could be utterly terrifying but to be honest I was scared to actually let her loose on the world.
She was a unit from the Yuri's Revenge expansion, a sniper similar to the unique unquie unit for those playing multiplayer as Great Britain, except that ontop of having a sniper rifle she fired toxic bullets with the intent to maim but not kill her opponent allowing them to escape but with the toxin already surging through their body, all those who came into contact would become infected by it as well, like the walking dead created after the first two atomic bombs were dropped, never knowing they were spreading radioactive poisoning like a plague.
She alone could cause the downfall of an entire city, with a simple shot, the plague would spread those of a high enough rank might be able to resist or be immune to it, but the commoners and low ranked would have no chance.
And within days the entire city could become a ghost town, an empty shell of it's former self.
Aptly enough this unit is called Virus, for now she was under orders to only use regular ammunition while the Engineer corp were examining her 3 availible toxin's to search for possible cures or other uses.
Perhaps if diluted they could become medicine of a sort.
Using the newfound abilities we'd launch a Paradrop once each day just on the edge of the map where they would continue to venture out into the world looking for a good settlement point for our next base.
Yes that's right next base, we'd already settled the new MCV in another location about 500km away from the mainbase.
This was an ideal location as it was hidden deep within a forest, but there was beyond ample amounts of coal and oil in the area.
Thanks to bringing this base up to operation, we'd actually stopped processing the minerals from the mine and instead started to use them as they were intended to create new items using standard forging and blacksmithing techniques instead.
The other big change was that, the Lietenant had finally reached her limit and well she approached me, and well became my left hand in a manner of speaking beyond what she always was.
The two of use today were actually on a bit of a vacation residing within the subbase.
Since calling them Main base and subbase was getting old I decided to name them properly.
Our core base was name Axiom, while the sub base was called Prospect.
Yeah I know not great names but what are you going to do, the only other ones that came to mind was to just re-use the names of fallen cities from this world and my own, but that might anger the locals who formerly belonged to those nations.
Guess I'll just have to wait till im strong enough to resist before I start founding, cities with old world names, while also learning more about this world for founding a city with a name only know to those from Earth would be like putting up a spotlight saying another otherworlder was here come and get me.
My faith in Earth humans was completely shot so I didn't want to meet them, that being said my opinion of this world's humans was also deteriorating quite fast.
Thanks to one of our spy squad's who'd impersonated a squad of Trent scouts who'd been sent to work as war slaves, these spy's had been the only squad sent out that had returned.
With their return they were questions but the spy's were under orders to not reveal anything of import.
They were welcomed back into the city of Trent, but that didn't mean the city believed them.
The suspicion that all but a single squad had managed to return meant something was truly out there and that this squad had simply failed to find it, or was lucky enough to evade the enemy's capture.
Was it Mutant beasts, Zombies?
The city didn't care, the fact that a faction of humans had the ability to trade excessively with their outposts was enough to set their greed on fire.
And so, thanks to an early warning from the spys still within Trent we knew that they were sending out a punitive force to deal with us.
Their numbers were honestly shocking, from what was reported there was going to be well over 5,000 awakened who were being sent out along with an armoured core and other mobile forces.
Well not surprising I guess, even the outposts had some cars so the Fortress cities having tanks and APC's wasn't much of a stretch, but to use such force against an unknown was surprising.
However this outcome is still better than having a top tier expert being sent out to investigate us.
As an army of thousands could be dealt with but the odds the system gave of us winning against even a 7 rank right now was pretty dismal.
Thankfully the city had yet to get serious but at the same time they weren't playing around anymore.
From the size of the force they sent out, Zoe was able to extrapolate that the Fortress of trent probably had a population of around 5 million, with this expeditionary force being around 10-20% of their total military capability not counting high ranking humans.
Even though the chances of them being able to defeat Axiom being extremely low the RA soldiers weren't going to take any chances and convinced me to take a vacation here with Zoe while they defended the base.
The base which at this point was 3 layers deep of almost 25ft tall concrete walls 10ft thick with a raised lip to act like a curtain wall to protect the soldiers station atop it.
In the field even as the enemy approached, camouflaged pillbox's held their fire as the enemy got closer to the base, the first defensive line was made up of pillbox's turrets, flame towers and tesla coils arranged in a way so that there was perfect coverage by all the defensive structures.
The approaching army began to spread out, reports coming in from my soldiers manning the walls and in the hidden bunkers showed that the enemy was shocked something like this was out here where nothing but an abandoned mine would be, others were marvelling at the structures they'd never seen before like the flame towers, and tesla coils.
Others were freaking out due to the sheer number of turret or city defense cannon that we had fielded.
Seems that while Trent had access to Artillery Cannons their total number didn't amount to too many.
Seeing the looming height of the walls the tank battalion moved up to attack first while the infantry formed ranks behind them.
As the first salvo from he assembled tanks resounded coutless shells raced through the air coming into contact with the walls, and fortifications protecting the base.
But even as they cheered watching the concrete walls crumbling before their very eyes and some of the towers now tilting or seeming to be destroyed.
They then were silenced to watch as the damage slowly reversed itself, the towers once more uprighting themselves, and the walls reforming into a perfect shape.
But the silence did not last long.
From all around them the sound of attacks resounding.
The bangs of gunfire, the booms of cannon fire, the roar of the flame towers launching fireballs, and the crackles of lightning as the coils let loose their charges.
All around the field was field with death and debris, bodies were scorched to death, and blown apart.
Tanks were rendered immobile as their crews were electrocuted, or blown apart.
Even the first who could see the writing on the wall failed to get away as the minute they attempted to retreat the camo bunkers open fire.
At the same time forces hidden in the forests roared into life charging towards what remained of the enemy, as a flood of RA soliders poured out from within the RA base gate to capture any who survived to patch them up and send them off for interrogation and slave placement within the camp.
The total death toll was probably pretty close to 15k, while the number of captives was only around 2k, but we learned one important fact from this, the interrogation of the survivors informed us that the city of Trent had the ruling council which was comprised of 6th and 7th rank awakened.
If they decided to move to recover the face they had lost in this battle, then Axiom would surely fall.
For now however they still didn't know our own strength and honestly neither did i.
The reason for that was simply because, as a result of the battle my Command level had been raised.
[Command Level has reached Level 4]
[The Commander has broken through]
[New Construction Options Available]
When I heard those words resounding in my mind I couldn't help but stop what I was doing, even if I was on a Date with Zoe, this had to come first.
She looked a bit sad but did understand since we had just come under attack and more were sure to come, so we'd need to know what we had access to, in order to defend ourselves.
