Chapter 6: A Father's Duty

The pain in her heart and the raging emotions that were raising in her heart overwhelmed Maevie. She clenched her chest with her little fist, trying to calm herself down.

Her emotions. Her memories.

All were rushing into her mind. She couldn't help but scoff at herself as she remembered those… her foolish actions. How much of a fool she must have looked in the eyes of the spectators? To her family? Infront of Luther?

Thankfully. She was bounded by the system. She now acknowledged her mistakes and would never be greedy. Those that don't belong to her, she would not covert over them. Not anymore.

Now, she only wished to have a good relation with her family without any hidden desire.

"How did you get that drunk?" Nora's question brought Maevie out of her train of thoughts.

"I…"

Maevie gave her assistant, who had always been by her side for the whole three years of her career, regardless of her actions, a brief narration of what happened the night before.

"So… you did drive under the influence. But the accident was not caused by you."

"I'm sure I would not have escaped with such minor injuries, if I had been in the car."

"Thankfully you got of the car. Otherwise…"

Nora did not need to continue. But she brought up another issue.

"What about the show?"

"…"

Maevie gave her a questioning look.

"What show?"

"That… Tomorrow's Idol. What do we do about that now?"

"Oh!" exclaimed the patient. "That"

"Yes. With your injury…"

Nora wanted to suggest her boss to withdraw from the show. But her boss was one who threw off even the feared agent of the Sirus Entertainment.

When Maevie voiced out her wish to participate in the show, her agent, Wenden was the first one to object. He unfilteredly commented that she was overestimating her abilities and would only bring more negative attention to herself after being constantly compared with Sienne.

But the princess wouldn't listen to his advice and insisted on joining the show. After all she was not there for the competition. But to chase her love, the Super Idol, Luther Zeev Greyson.

And just as the agent predicted, Maevie's popularity had fallen into the pit. And it became even worst when the netizens saw the clinginess and the one-sided attention she was giving to her crush.

After the fourth episode of the show had been aired, the netizens were calling out for her to withdraw. Agent Wander also suggested it and told her that it would the best option. But the two artist and agent got into an argument after that.

When all of this happened with the powerful agent, who was she, a miser earner, to go and question her boss's action. That was what Nora thought. But the moment Maevie opened her mouth, she was thrown off guard.

"Just quit it."

"…"

"Boss. I don't think I heard that clearly. Could you please repeat that again?" Nora requested as she cleared her ear with her finger.

"I said I'm quitting the show. How do I dance in this condition? The doctor said to not make any heavy movement of at least a week. If I'm not wrong, the recording should start from the day after tomorrow."

"…" The assistant didn't know how to reply to that.

The princess who was as stubborn as a bull was not following her own path today. She had been soft spoken since she woke up. Not demanding anything. And even thanked her when she passed her stuffs.

All this had never happened before.

'Did the accident hit her head or something?'

Like her assistant, Maevie was also drowning in her thoughts. After much consideration when to or not to, she finally turned to Nora and asked.

"Did…"

There was still some hesitation in her eyes.

"Yes?"

Nora looked at her boss who looked like she wanted to ask something from her.

Maevie took a deep breath before she asked what she wanted know.

"Did my family call?"

"Oh! Dear lord. How could I forget to inform you?" Nora chided herself for her lack of consideration.

"The Eldest Young Master contacted and asked regarding your condition."

"…"

Nora saw that Maevie was waiting for something else.

"He… Ah… He seemed to be pretty worried."

"…"

Maevie was having a hard time believing her assistant's words. Her Elder Brother may say words which shows he was worried. But his voice would never give away his emotions. He was trained as such, since he was a toddler as the heir of a powerful family. Not to mention, he served in the army for five years before returning to join her Cacia Group.

Nora was getting nervous under the scrutinizing eyes of her boss.

But thankfully, the boss didn't hold her long and sent her to get some food for her. Maevie had already skipped three meals, she was hungry.

In one of the VIP rooms of the same hospital, was a crowd of people, observing the patient who was covered with bandage. The mother of the victim was in tears as she couldn't bear to watch her son's pitiful state.

But the father had a lot to say.

"How many times do I have to tell you? How many times did I warn you not to hang out with those useless bastards? They only appear when they want to drink out of your pocket. Now. Who have come? Huh?"

"…"

"Who is the one to suffer? Huh!!!"

"…"

"Race? Wanna race? Why don't you run with your broken leg now? Let's see how far you can get? Huh! Race!"

"Enough already. Your son is already in this state. At least wait until he gets better."

"You!..." Mr. Clangton stopped grumbling at the call of his wife.

He turned to the guest who have come to visit his son.

"Chief Lander. I hope you have handled the situation."

"No need to worry, Mr. Clangton. The evidence had been handled. Thankfully, the street was deserted and there seemed to be no witness. My people have already collected all the footage from the area. Even if the Cacia family want to clarify the accusation, it will be next to impossible without the evidence."

The Chief of Police of the Dalania City assure the worried father.

"The luck was on our side." Mr. Clangton breathed out.

It really was. His reckless bastard of a son went out late last night and never returned. His blood pressure almost sent him to the ICU when he heard that his son was admitted in the hospital as he was involved in a car accident.

After questioning his useless friends did he knew that they were having a car race when it happened. It was a God's blessing that the only person involved in this accident, other than his son, got away with light injuries.

And when he heard that the person was drunk in the time of accident, and was the notorious adopted daughter of the Cacia Family, he thought that he could cover up his son's reckless actions.

What can he do? He was his son after all. He had to protect him even if it meant throwing others into the pit.

"See what's waiting for you after this is over."

He glared at his son, who was either reflecting his actions or was just scared of his father.
