As it turned out, the reason for the ship's haste in travelling from the Linthol system to the solar system was the engine that the ship had. Gus already knew that it was incredibly fast, being capable of reaching speeds only seen before in ships with the aid of the Space Catpults. What he didn't know, however, was just how regulated the Space Catapults were.

Each time that he had used them previously, when he and the rest of his platoon travelled from the solar system to the frontier, he hadn't witnessed the heightened levels of security present there compared to other places. The presence of security was necessary, as the catapults allowed ships to travel somewhere fast enough that it could outpace any efforts made to stop it at its destination, something that would be devastating if the technology fell into the wrong hands.
