Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Refusing the Alpha

“Thanks but I’m good,” I said, shoving him back to put distance between us.

“It wasn’t a choice,” he replied, exasperation evident in his slick tone. What surprised me was the looks of astonishment written over everyone’s faces at my blunt refusal. Clearly Abel was a man who wasn’t questioned often.

“Like I told you before, I don’t take orders from you. I’m not a part of your pack,” I spat, standing my ground.

He stood at a distance, watching me with such ferocity it took everything within me not to look away. But I couldn’t, not with everyone watching. I wasn’t going to let him win. I couldn’t help but notice his muscles rippling through his shirt as he breathed heavily, his irritation building with every passing moment. I was trapped, bound to his gaze and unable to look away as his eyes pierced through me. I searched his eyes as he searched mine, noticing slight hints of blue hidden in the depths of his grassy eyes that sparked like stars in the night sky.
