Illio stared back at his menu and with bulging eyes began suffering a difficult time whilst processing all the information on the screen.
It was beyond what he could hope for and imagine. Especially since this class was definitely not what he expected.
He knew that the legendary class was bound to come with certain perks but this….this put him way ahead of so many!
"What are these stats and skills?!"
The information reflected was equivalent to around a level 20 player.
According to leaderboards, Alexander was at the top sitting at level 150. In second, Tobi at level 135. Third place was Player Amelia with a level of 130.
She was one of the most beautiful and skilled women on the plant to play SOS and dominate on a global scale.
These were the world rankings for the top three who had climbed this impossible ladder for the past 5 years and yet for Illio who was coming in at level 1, his stats were reflective of one who was level 20.
The difficulty of SOS was on another level with in game death bringing about harsh punishments such as experience gain reduction by up to 99%, or level loss upon death of up to 10 levels. On rare occasions one would even gain a "timeout penalty" where the player could not log into the game for 5 days.
Death must be avoided at all costs.
The experience gain in general was only 0.05% gain on average for mobs. Therefore making gaining a level take an average of 1 -2 months depending on how committed one is willing to be.
This may seem drastic but Chronos made it this way because with harsher trials come greater rewards and even more power to truly gain the right to be the best! This insane difficulty curve was also a great appeal to almost everyone because it showed that you had to earn your place and nothing but skill or talent could help you on your way to the top.
That is until now that 10 legendary classes had been released.
"Is this the power of the legendary class? These numbers are unreal."
Still in awe Illio began making logic of what he saw.
Perhaps these stats are real….but there has to be a reason behind this. It's not just to revive interest in an already popular game and to get new players to join. If that was the case then there would be more legendary classes available right? The system only said there were 10 and I was the last one.
So….could it mean that Chronos plans to change the current paradigm with the introduction of legendary classes? Do they want us to breakdown the current status and restructure it? Are they hoping we will become warriors of justice?
The current structure after five years was one where players were ruling at the top in the world of Luna. Due to this, a lot of corruption happened and a lot of players especially the lower leveled ones would be harassed until they were forced into hunting, boss raids and other combats to generate wealth for the top players.
Having extreme power came with perks and it wasn't easy to subjugate another person, yet if you got to the point of being a high leveled player called a Ranker, more often than not one would find themselves drunk on their power and abuse the game for personal benefit.
Of course people rebelled against them and while some were successful, many weren't. Complaints were filed to Chronos to fix this but they stood still on their statement to not interfere in the game for players.
It angered many and most wanted to quit but they couldn't because of the potential to generate a living playing SOS.
Since Chronos swore to not interfere in SOS, they can't directly get involved with the current world view of corruption that if left unchecked could ruin the game…so instead they are giving the power to chosen players to rewrite the history in Luna….
Illio's thought process was sane with the exception being that he wasn't a chosen player. Instead he stole his way into this opportunity but it didn't matter. What did was the fact that he would use it to turn everything around. Making a name for himself becoming greater than even Alexander himself.
With another look at his class information he knew that Luck was actually on his side. He had something unheard of. Something that would truly allow him unlimited power. The ability to control probability.
He hadn't experimented with it yet but if it functioned how he thought it did, Illio would manipulate fate and probability to render his opponents skills and abilities useless, thus turning them into punching bags whose experience would speed him to the top.
After finally collecting himself, Illio selected [Proceed] from the menu and was instantly teleported to the starting village.
….
"Please you have to understand! I paid 25 million for that voucher! You have to reissue it!"
"We apologize sir but that is not happening. All vouchers were randomly given and have been redeemed. What you did to get your hands on one is not our problem and if they ended up in different hands is not of our concern. We simply rolled the ball down the hill. What world makes of it…we can only imagine."
"You cursed son of a—GRRRR-Let me speak to your manager regarding this!"
"Sorry sir but We only handle in game matters and it sounds like this is a real world situation. There is nothing more we can do on our part, as such we Thank you so much for calling us and we hope you have a good rest of your day."
~Beep~
With that the representative that he was told would help resolve the missing voucher issue denied him.
Angrily Tom threw his brand new phone with all his might at the neighboring wall and after a brief flight, it became embedded in the wall.
"I will get revenge on you! I don't know who you are but just you wait! I will find you and end you, even if it takes all my millions! I will have my revenge!"
Pulling out a second phone Tom began dialing the information to a private investigator he kept close by for "special matters".
....
~Zzzzzzzzz~
The soft buzzing ended and when Illio opened his eyes, he was in the starting village. The hustle and bustle of village life was about and one could see and hear new players everywhere completing all sorts of quests.
-"Ok I've collected the minerals you needed."
-"You want me to slay what monster?!"
-"A hidden treasure! I'll go save it for you!"
The eager joys new players filled the environment and it became contagious as Illio found himself smiling. After a few seconds of walking aimlessly however, he shook that smile off and checked to see what equipment he had. Illio needed to focus and start completing quests and leveling up.
He already knew how the game worked and so With a simple thought he opened the correct menu and took a look at his equipment.
[Beginner Sword (F-)]
Attack power : 5
[A basic weapon for prospective heros]
[Beginner Leather Chest Plate (F)]
Defense Power : 3
After confirming that he had the standard equipment anyone else did when starting, he headed to the village chief to complete the series of quests which would allow him to leave the starting village.
"There is nothing to gain here other friends and a basic understanding of the game."
Illio wanted to leave as soon as possible in order to have complete freedom. Until he completed the chain quests by the village chief he would be constrained by the tutorial system and would not be able to leave the village and explore Luna.
Therefore he wouldn't focus on the same things that many did. Instead for preparation he had gone to his local library and studied arduously for the past week, informing himself of every guide, tip, and trick to progress after the starting village. As such he didn't need to pay attention to the basic tutorial of the game hence his rush to finish and leave.
After a few minutes of walking he met up with the village chief, a burley muscular dark skinned man dressed in tight cloth armor, to received his first quest.
"Ah yes another hopeful hero. I'm assuming you want to explore Luna like many others right? Well before that you have to prove competency. Bring me 10 forest wolf pelts first from the Emerald forest nearby."
[Quest Created]
[Collect 10 Wolf Pelts]
[The Village chief wants wolf pelts, go to the forest and collect them.]
[Current 0/10]
[Reward: 10 gold]
With a smile once again on his face Illio accepted the quest and closed the menu before he began running full speed towards the forest eager to taste the joys of combat and glory just like the many before him.
….
In the general store next to the village chief, there stood two tall players, hidden away by their hooded cloaks. They had been scoping out potential players for over two hours, with zero interest in being risen within them. That is until their eyes fell on one particular individual.
"You see him?"
"Yeah, the one who just rushed off right?
"Yes him, something is different about that player..Look at how fast he moves compared to everyone else."
"He is moving quite fast, too fast actually…but isn't he a beginner though? How can he move like that? Is it a bug? Is he even a beginner?
"I don't think it's a bug, I think it's something more at play here but we would need to check."
"Well Let's follow him and see how competent he is and what he can accomplish while here in the village."
"Very well. Let's go."
Without anyone noticing, two unknown players quickly and quietly followed behind Illio.
