Chapter 6: Game Begins: Maritime Banquet 6

Sea Survival, Day 7, Noon

Apart from the doctor, Wen Nannan was the one who had the most contact with the crew members bitten by Xiao Li. She had also witnessed their drastic changes with every meal.

Despite the doctor's best efforts, their conditions showed no signs of improvement. Their wounds continued to bleed profusely, discharging pus and blackened blood.

Even more concerning, some of them began to exhibit Xiao Li's symptoms - aversion to light and excessive salivation.

This disease was indeed contagious!

Their mental states also deteriorated, their pupils constricted, and their bodies stiffened. When they moved, she could hear the creaking of their joints.

The bitten crew members also developed a craving for raw meat.

When Wen Nannan delivered their meals, their eyes fixed on her as if she were a piece of raw meat, sending shivers down her spine.

Wen Nannan's heart raced, and her instincts urged her to leave immediately.

She edged towards the door and turned to the doctor. "Dr. Song, I don't think it's a good idea for us to stay here any longer. Would you like to go out with me?"

"You can go by yourself," Dr. Song replied, shaking his head.

"Help us deliver enough food for three days, and if we haven't recovered by then, you can take care of us the same way you do Xiao Li."

Wen Nannan was taken aback by his words. "Dr. Song, you..."

"I've been bitten too," Dr. Song said, pulling up his sleeve to reveal a gauze bandage soaked in blackened blood on his arm.

"I don't feel well. All the ship's medicine is here. If we still can't be cured, then there's nothing we can do. We can only hope to survive until the ship docks, and we can get to a hospital."

A hint of helplessness crossed Dr. Song's face as he spoke.

Wen Nannan paused for a moment. "Dr. Song, is there anything you'd like to eat?"

"Anything is fine, as long as it fills my stomach," Dr. Song said. He was not a man who cared much for food.

"Okay," Wen Nannan agreed. As she turned to leave, Dr. Song called out to her again.

He stared at Wen Nannan for a full two seconds, his eyes slightly bloodshot. Then, his throat bobbed up and down. "Bring us some fresh steak."

Wen Nannan swallowed hard, trying to maintain her composure. She brought in three carts of fresh steaks.

The last cart of steak was pulled into the infirmary, and with a loud bang, the door was locked. The lights in the infirmary were also turned off instantly.

Wen Nannan stood outside the door, listening to the sounds of frenzied chewing and muffled growls coming from within.

The people standing in the corridor cast strange glances towards the door.

Even Dr. Song had been infected. They had become neither human nor ghost, their grotesque appearance causing panic throughout the ship.

Wen Nannan ignored the stares and ran straight to the captain's control room.

"Captain, we need to completely isolate Xiao Li and the infirmary. This disease is contagious!" Wen Nannan exclaimed.

"They look terrifying after they've been infected, just like the zombies in movies."

The crew members who had followed Wen Nannan also overheard her words.

They exchanged glances and quietly returned to their rooms.

"This game is about zombies, right?"

"Most likely," replied a short-haired man named Zhao Gao. "If that's the case, with only forty people on the entire ship, an outbreak here might be our best chance yet."

These four players contacted and collaborated early on after entering the game.

Three men and one woman are all veterans of this apocalyptic game.

"Don't be too happy too early. Based on the nature of this game, it won't let us pass so easily," said the only female player, Li Yan.

"Maybe it will give us an unexpected surprise halfway through."
