"Did she kill her sons?" Wakana gapes at him. It doesn't feel right. The lady also looks sick. Ms Okuyama does care about Mikio. "Her nails aren't long enough."
"What kind of person would kill someone in such a way?" Minho questions her back. "The first symptom is eating a lot. Then, the person's stomach is torn open. Who would do that?"
Why can't he give her a straight answer? She purses her lips. "Ms Okuyama seems like a clean person. Women usually don't choose such a gruesome way to kill someone, but I might be wrong. The killer must have a strong grudge."
"You are not half-bad." Minho gives her a pat on her head and smiles at her.
She tenses her shoulders and shrinks her neck, letting him pat her head. It's strange that her body happily receiving him as if it had known him for a long time. She frowns at him. Just how many times have they met? Did he pat her head before?
"But what should we do about your mental strength? If I wasn't there, you would have gotten into big trouble." Minho retracts his hand and shakes his head at her. "Even a five-year-old has better mental strength than you do."
Wakana glares at him. "Talking about my mental strength? Don't you know that I went to a cemetery once? Of course, you know. You saved my life that day. What about that apartment? You also saved my life from that rapist demon. If it was someone else, they would have gone mad."
It just gets harder. She's not going to be convinced that he's not that person. Choi Minho exhales. If he accepts that he's that person, he has to explain everything to her. "I don't know what you are talking about. However, I am not sure if you haven't gone mad. Let's discuss like professional people. Tell me about your abilities."
Lecturing her about professionalism? Wakana doesn't know whether to laugh or slap his face. If he was professional, he wouldn't have kissed her. Even if their lips didn't touch, it was a kiss for her. Her lips did touch his fingers. She shakes her head, pushing away the bothersome and intangible feelings related to the temperature of her skin. "Don't you know about my abilities, Mr Choi?"
"I have some idea." He wonders why is her face turning red again. He didn't do anything to her. Is it cold? "You can see ghosts. You can also see strong memories if you touch someone. That's all?"
He's such a stubborn one. He continues to pretend that he is not that person. It's rather annoying. At least, she knows the name. She's going to find out everything about him. Wakana puts her hands inside her pockets and speaks to him with an annoyed tone, "I don't always see ghosts. Most of the times, they are just vague outlines of white or black shadows. If they are strong, then I can see more than just the outlines. About the memories, it's not limited to humans. If an object or a place has a strong memory, I can see it happening before my eyes again. Those memories have to be recent. I can sense emotions sometimes."
She's a lot like that person. Her abilities are half-developed. It's probably because he's been suppressing it for a long time. But how long can he suppress it? Thankfully, her other abilities haven't awakened yet. Minho stares at her. Just why did this girl choose the occupation that was most dangerous for her sanity? He already knows why. Being a police officer is bad enough. She even had to join the supernatural investigation agency. To make it worse, she wants him to undo the suppression. "You can sense emotions if they are strong, right?"
"Yes." She glances at her gloved hands. "It's same with the memories. I can mostly see the traumatic memory of the person if I touch them."
She didn't see Sei's traumatic memories again when he touched her hands later. She continues with an uncertain voice, "However, it doesn't always happen more than once."
"Right now, your abilities are affected by emotions." Minho explains to her, "It's easier for you to look into the other person memories if both of you are uneasy or nervous. If you are comfortable with the person, you might be able to choose whether you want to see the memories or not. Also, if you have overused your gifts, it might go away for a while. We call it rest-time or time out. We are not like creatures who can wield magic or spiritual energy from a source or the environment. Our abilities depend on our mental strength and soul energy."
She didn't know all that. So, what she does is not magic. Wakana cocks her head. "Our? Does it mean that you are also like me, Mr Choi?"
He closes his eyes and lets out a laugh. Well, she was going to find out eventually. Minho looks at her. "Why do you think that I was chosen as your mentor?"
"Oh." She opens her mouth wide. But she honestly thought that he was an angel or a magician. "What is your ability, Mr Choi?"
"My ability? I am not exactly like you." He gives her a mysterious smile, wanting her head to become full of his thoughts. The curious look in her eyes is rather enticing.
"You are like me, but you are not like me." She scratches her head. Does he need to talk in a circle? "Say, are you human?"
"Technically, yes." Minho chuckles when she gawks at him. Why is she so shocked after hearing that he's a human? Ah! She thought that he was an angel. Angels aren't as nice as she imagines them to be. "I can't die though."
"What?" Wakana steps back. "Why can't you die?"
"You haven't done your homework." He clasps his hands behind him. "Student, you should have studied hard about the supernatural creatures."
"It hasn't been long." She mumbles, "Mr Choi, you should tell me what you are. We are teammates now."
"I have already answered your question." Choi Minho walks ahead of her. "Let's go. You need to rest tonight. We are going to visit the gravesite tomorrow."
"G-Gravesite?" Wakana jogs to meet his walking pace. "Why do we have to visit a gravesite?"
"Aish!" He raises his brows. "You were talking about visiting a cemetery. Why do you look so scared?"
"It's a gravesite." She complains, "You know how much I hate them."
She's not going to treat him like a stranger. Let it be. He doesn't correct her this time. He murmurs, "Why are you worried when I will be going with you?"
That's right. Why should she be worried? She blinks her eyes, realizing what he is. A human who can't die? Doesn't it mean that he's an immortal?
Choi Minho is an immortal human.
I already mentioned that he is a character from the novel -- The Love That Remains. He became immortal with the main character of that novel. You don't have to read it for his background. It will be explained in this novel.
