Chapter 1: Ernas

Death is such a peculiar thing. It's the end of everything, the end of the world as Robert Heath knew it. Dead to the very thing he was used to handling the most. Yet for some it was apparently a moment like any other.

'Ha. I wonder how many tears will be spent mourning for me? My best guess is probably around zero or soooo...'

If he was lucky, somebody might bring up his name in a passing conversation or if they were taking the piss out on him. Better yet, he might end up on national geographic as a rotting corpse, giving back to the Earth what was naturally hers.

Still, being dead was a surprisingly pleasant experience, no unnecessary thoughts, no skin to be burned or nostrils to be assaulted by the smell of gun powder. There were no voices of his colleagues nagging him to supply them with shit no sane man would ever give to a group of such degenerates.

So he enjoyed his new found peace, leaving his mind to drift in an empty, colorless world. But after an undefined amount of time passed, Robert grew a bit impatient. Wasn't death the part of life where you would just start to fade away? Mind and everything? The part where you simply cease to exist? 'God, if you're real, I really hope this isn't how you designed death, because this is simply torture. Hold up, maybe eternal isolation is what hell is like?'

Before he could continue pondering on the inner workings of the shitty death process, he heard the guttural cry of a man, followed by the colorless void gradually gaining a lighter shade of white. Along with his returning senses, Robert could also feel his consciousness losing the calmness and peace of death, flooding his mind with the emotions of the life he lived, the memories he made and the apathy he felt for it all. At the end of the little mind assault, it didn't actually feel all that different than when he was just a wandering mind.

*"I did it! Because of course I did! And you all dared compare me to some two-bit healers like these idiots, saying that only one could be saved! Ha! I'm the best!"* said a tall boy in his late teens. He was as thin as a stick but more importantly, he was speaking in an unfamiliar language, though Robert could've sworn he saw his hands glowing for a split second, but it was probably his blurry eyes playing tricks on him. *"But anyways you're going to provide those materials rig-"*

*"Enough you idiot!?! I'm forever grateful that you managed to save my family, but if you don't get out of my house in the next 5 seconds, I won't mind using a Royal Pardon to beat you an inch from death!"* screamed an even taller man that was standing next to the teenager. He was muscular and well shaved, probably in his mid-twenties but the dark circles around his eyes and his face wrinkled in stress made him look elderly. His massive hands that seem to be able to crush the newborn in a heartbeat, were gently holding him. Looking away from the kid he was screaming at, he looks down on to the baby boy with a loving gaze and eyes veiled in tears.

'Was I just given birth to? No way, right? Right? Right? Yeah, whatever.... It's pretty bright out' Robert seemed almost surprised for a second, before he quickly accepted his new reality. He found himself in a well lit room, pristine walls covered with paintings and tapestries. The floor was layered in soft, red carpet. The room was large and the furniture looked expensive to the point of being tacky.

*"How is he?"* said a woman's voice that was surprisingly calm and strong, coming from the large bed at the center of the room. She had a head of blonde hair and a pair of deep blue eyes. She was clearly exhausted, heavily panting with sweat lining her entire body. Most of her body was limp, head tilted, unable to keep herself upright, yet her eyes were steady. She didn't roll her eyes in exhaustion nor did she blink more than necessary, seemingly hell bent on staying awake even though she had just delivered an incredibly taxing baby.

The tall man who seemed to be Robert's new father, motioned to a maid who was standing next to him, who quickly handed him a white towel that he wrapped over the newborn. Robert was handed over to be held by the woman who he assumed would be his mother.

She held him in a tight yet comfortable embrace, clearly someone who had experienced this before. A blue pair of eyes watched Robert and his every movement, trying to understand why her newborn had yet to make a sound outside the occasional cute groan or moan.

She motion to a man dressed in the same way the early boy was, a white robe lined in golden outlines, dressed in words and symbols of some kind. The man was standing next to three others draped in the same clothes as him, looking like a group a singing choir boys. As the man came over she asked in an amiable tone, *"Surely there isn't anything wrong with him right? I've heard of children born with a quiet mouth, but this is a bit excessive no?"* Though the question came from a short, nearly comatose woman, the bearded man shook his head nervously, and replied in a meek almost scared voice.

*"Lady Ernas, I can assure you that even from the previous complications, there isn't it a single scratch left on you or your son. Aside from feeling starved, you should both be perfectly healthy and ready to go after a nice meal and good night's rest. If I may?"* He receives a nod from the Ernas woman before making his palms face each other with closed fingers, then twisting his wrists until the back of the palms meet with the fingers intertwined. Both mother and son stared at his gestures with all their available concentration, the former in acute judgement and the latter in bewildered curiosity. 'Okay, well I guess I might start getting a little excited about being alive again.'

*"Lakhute Veneest"*

A small light erupted out of the man's hands, as he cautiously inched his way towards the petite woman. The assumed father, who had never left his child's side, watched in a stern and cold gaze as the light wielder place his hands on the woman's arm, enveloping her body in a warm light. It held for a moment before fading away, seemingly not having done a thing. Then he places his hands on the small boy's head, making Robert show the first voluntary reaction since he popped out of the womb.

While the light wrapped around Robert's body, he felt a ticklish sensation throughout his body. His sensitive body did its best impression of a laugh that a newborn could make.

' AHHHHH! What the fuck is this! This feels awesome! Its as if I came back from a session of a full body massage!' While Robert attempted to reenact the gestures he just witnessed along with the words he heard, his parents let out a sigh in relief seeing their almost dead child clenching his fist in the air, blurting out mindless words they mistook for babbling instead of an attempt to perform the mystical arts.

'Wait! Wait! Wait! No wait don't go yet I was just getting used to it! Come back!'

In a fit of desperation, Robert used his every effort to grip the fleeting wisps of energy, willing them to stay. He didn't understand a single thing that's happened since he died but he wanted to keep this feeling for a while longer.

The light around him was dimming down until it inexplicably stopped and started to grow in intensity. Everyone one present was familiar with the spell the man had preformed, only adding to the confusion. Robert tried his best but after a few seconds fainted from a type of exhaustion besides physical fatigue.

Blinded by rage, Lord Ernas gripped the man from the collar with one hand while his other hand formed gestures in a blur. *"What the fuck did you do! You best hope I like your answer enough to stop me from blowing your brains out!?!"* His right hand glowed in a purple hue, sparking in unmeasurable energy. Before the terrified man could answer, the lady of the house replied in her familiar calm voice, unbothered by the events that just occurred.

*"Calm down dear, our little boy simply overworked himself into sleep. He needs a quiet place to have his first nap."* She whispered as she held her hand over her son's beating heart. Her words were absolute, quelling the heightened emotions of almost everyone in the room.

Almost.

*"Are you sure? What do you mean overworked? Our little boy is gonna be ok right? Please stop being so subtle in a situation like this! Just tell me!"* said Lord Ernas in such a somber tone it could make you forget that he almost took a man's life a moment ago.

*"He fainted from mana exhaustion."* Lady Ernas whispered into his ear in a neutral, plain tone. She had killed enough wannabe mages to notice the symptoms, even in the case of her son.

Catching his wife's drifts, he orders a full course meal enough to feed a small village from his chefs before ordering everyone one out of the room.

After they both had their fill, Orion asks his wife before she succumbs to sleep.

*"You were kidding right?"*

His wife, Jirni, continues to look at her son with a soothing smile, ignoring her husbands question.

*"I think Joious has a nice ring to it. Joious Ernas."*

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

I spent a long time teaching myself how to properly type on a laptop. Anyways, I wanted to continue my original novel until I realized I don't have any fucking clue on what I was doing. So I did some thinking and figured I'd try my hand at a fanfic. For those who have read Supreme Magus, good for you. For those who haven't go read it. Its really good, you can find it on webnovel. If you haven't gotten the gist of it, Joious is Phloria's little brother. Poor woman, she'll have to deal with two wierdos. I just thought this would be fun and also give me experience with writing character interactions, using already established characters. Also I just really had the urge to add Manohar, it just seemed like the right thing to do. Also copied Legion's early style of *"writing"*, it just seemed appropiate, will probably stop though, its annoying.
