Chapter 55: Part 54

Part 54

Justen's POV

The dream I had scared me so much that I picked up my phone from my nightstand and dialed Josh's number. The phone started ringing as I silently begged that he would pick up the phone.

"Hello?" Josh asked, answering the phone.

"I'm so sorry for calling you this late but I need to talk to you," I said.

"Are you okay?" Josh asked, sounding worried.

"I had a bad dream," I said.

"What was it about?" Josh asked.

"In the dream, my dad started to do his drugs home and my sister saw it happen. When my dad saw me, he started hitting me again and then there was a knock on the door. While my sister held me back, my dad answered the door and saw you standing there. I begged him not to but my dad started hitting you. I couldn't stand seeing you hurt so I tried to escape my sister's grip. And as I was trying to do that, my dad woke me up in real life," I explained.

"That's terrible," Josh said. "I am sorry that you dreamed about that."

"That's another reason why I called you. I wanted to make sure that you were okay," I admitted.

"I'm fine, but I'm still a little razzled about my own dream," Josh said.

"Was it a bad one?" I asked.

"Yeah," Josh said.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked, not wanting to pressure Josh into something he didn't want to do.

Josh took a deep breath. "I'll tell you about it," he said.

"Okay," I said, letting Josh know that I was ready for him to explain his dream.

"It started like a normal day at school, but then I realized you weren't there. I wanted to look for you but I couldn't. After school, I tried to find you but my mom asked me to pick up Michael so I had to do that. When I was finally able to get to our special spot to see if you were there and I found you there," Josh explained.

"That doesn't seem so bad," I said. "I mean, you found me, right?"

"You have to remember that this is a bad dream. I might have found you, but you weren't alive," Josh said.

"No," I gasped.

"Yeah," Josh said. "It tore me apart seeing you so lifeless and I started yelling at you in my dream. I was yelling things like "you promised" and "I trusted you". It was absolutely terrible, which is why I was so glad you called me. I was going to call you but when I saw you calling me, I was so glad that everything was just a dream and that you're still here with me."

"I can't believe something like that would happen in a dream," I said.

"I know, but at least we are here with each other," Josh said.

"Of course," I said. "I mean, we can't see each other right now, but that's besides the point."

"Yeah," Josh said before he paused. "I know it's like two in the morning, but do you want to meet up at our special spot? I really want to see you."

"I'll have to ask my dad," I said. "But because I want to see you too, I will ask."

"And I'll ask my mom. If both say yes, make sure to bring a pillow and blanket so we can just spend the night at our spot," Josh said.

"Okay," I said.

"I love you and I'll see you later," Josh said.

"I love you too," I said, hanging up the phone and walking over to my dad's room.

The light was still on which told me that he was still awake. I walked over to the door and gave it a light knock.

"Justen? You're still awake?" I heard my dad ask.

"Yeah," I said. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah, come on in," my dad said.

I walked into his room and over to where he was sitting on his bed.

"I have a question," I said.

"Okay, ask away," my dad said.

"Can I go with Josh to my and his special spot?" I asked. "I know it's two in the morning, but-"

"You can go," my dad said, cutting me off.

"I can?" I asked.

"Yeah, you can," my dad said. "Just come home after school, okay?"

"Thank you, dad!" I said before running back to my room and texting Josh.

J- Justen

j- Josh

J: I can go

j: Sweet, me too

J: Are you coming to pick me up?

j: Duh

J: Alright

j: Remember to bring your pillow and blanket

J: I will

j: I'll see you when I get to your house

J: See you then

With those final texts, I packed a bag of clothes for tomorrow, put a small pillow and blanket in there, and grabbed my school bag. When I was done, I headed into the living room to see headlights shine through the window. After a final thank you and goodbye to my dad, I went outside and got into Josh's truck with a smile.
