Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The mighty Griffin!

Everyone watched as the Griffin carried Kal away into the air. The thing was huge and moved so fast that no one had even seen it coming.

"Kal!!!" Scarlett screamed as she drew her large two-handed sword from her back.

Ron and Gilly were also shocked at what had just happened, and Ron pulled his sword from his hip.

"What the hell is a griffin doing in these parts!" He shouted, clearly panicked.

"It must be after the horses. You need to protect them, please!" Gilly shouted

Everyone watched as the griffin circled around in the sky, heading back towards them.

Kal was screaming and kicking her legs as the griffin carried her in the air. However, it seemed that the beast had no interest in her as it suddenly ripped her body in half with its razor-sharp claws, dropping her to the ground like a rag doll.

Everyone was horrified at sight. Especially Ron and Scarlett, who almost didn't move out of the way of the griffin's next attack.

"Look out!" Lucian shouted at them, trying to snap them out of their thoughts before the griffin crushed them both.

Scarlett came to her senses and rolled out of the way while Ron fell back on his arse, the fear already setting in.

The mighty griffin had landed on the ground and flapped its vast wings, letting loose a powerful burst of wind that was enough to knock you off your feet.

The beast was huge, with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. It was indeed a powerful foe, and it had set its sights on Ron, who had failed to get out of its way.

The beast raised its arm as it roared, getting ready to slice Ron in half. Quickly Lucian launched himself at the beast and slammed his hammer into the side of its body, knocking it over to the ground with a mighty blow.

"Get out of the way, or you will die!" Lucian shouted as he landed back on the floor.

However, the griffin was a sturdy creature and smashed Lucian in the body with a powerful kick of its back legs, sending him crashing through the air and into the ground.

"Why you!" Scarlett roared as she charged headfirst with her sword in an attempt to cut the beasts head off.

The griffin had already seen her coming and swiped at her with its claws, ripping her steel chest plate to shreds and knocking her to the ground.

Scarlett couldn't move as the blow had broken her ribs. She was forced to watch helplessly as the griffin stood over her and roared in victory as it was about to finish her off.

Lucian had been sent flying from the grffins kick. The blow was so strong it had broken his entire rib cage and left arm. His regeneration saving his life once again as he slowly stood up, feeling his body return to full strength.

Lucian could see Gilly had little red safe hiding behind the wagon with Ron. But Scarlett had been hurt badly and was pinned down by the griffin.

"I have to save her!" Lucian shouted in his head as he willed his body to move.

His muscle flared to life as he could feel power surging through his body, just as it had done when he battled the golem.

With a mighty swing of his arm, Lucian threw his Warhammer as hard as he could.

Scarlett was face to face with the monster as it roared, getting ready to finish its prey. The griffin opened his mouth, prepared to rip her head off when suddenly the beast was struck from the side.

Lucian's hammer had hit the griffin so hard that it knocked it off its feet, causing the monster to crash onto the ground giving a loud screech in pain.

"Now!" Lucian shouted as he jumped into the air with his fist raised, ready to beat the griffin until he beat it to death.

The griffin got back up, and Lucian's punch hit it square in the beak, causing the monster's legs to shake from the force.

Lucian was about to hit it again, but the monster lashed out with pure instinct landing a lucky blow that knocked Lucian to the ground off balance.

The beast was hurting now and quickly flapped its mighty wings taking into the air in retreat.

Lucian slowly stood back up as he realised the fight was over and that he could relax a little.

As he did, his body burst full of pain as the after-effects of his wrath ability kicked in, thankfully. He had only used it a little, and it was no way near as bad as last time.

"Help!" Ron suddenly screamed as he was kneeling next to Scarlett.

"Please, somebody help her! You must know healing magic, right?" The lad shouted.

Gilly had also rushed over to check her injuries and could see they were harmful but not life-threatening.

"Calm down, lad. It looks like the armour saved her life, but she has a nasty gash and, from the looks of it, a few broken ribs that will need to be treated right away." The old man said.

Lucian came over to have a look and could see that the old man was right. Lucian realised that he hadn't looked at his stats and decided to take a quick peek.

Name - Gilly.

Class - Human - Monster trader.

Skills - Magic binding. - Slave seal binding. - Magic sense. - Dark illusion.

Rank - 4/20 - Bronze rank.

States - Strength 4/10 - Speed - 3/10 - intelligence - 9/10 - Magic - 1/8 - Dark.

Lucian was impressed that the old man was still pretty strong. He also noticed that he could use magic and had an ability called dark illusion.

"Help Ron get her in the wagon Lucian, looks like we need to take a break for Dragonfront right away," Gilly said as he headed over to tend to the horses and prepare the carriage.

"It's ok, Scarlett. We are going to get you help." Ron said to her, trying to keep her calm.

Scarlett gave him a slight nod before she winced at the pain of them, lifting her into the wagon.

"Right, get in! were heading to Dragonfront at full speed!" Gilly shouted as he cracked the whip on the horses, getting them to start pulling.

Ron still looked worried as he tried to tend to Scarlett, keeping her as comfortable as possible.

Lucian had taken little red back off of Gilly now they were in the carriage. He still couldn't believe that the baby goblin was a girl and knew he would certainly have to come up with a better name than little red for her.

Ron was glancing at Lucian every now and again, and Lucian couldn't help but notice.

"Is everything alright, Ron?" He asked, deciding to break the tension.

"Yeah, sorry... It's just." Ron said, unable to look Lucian in the eye.

"Kal... And now, Scarlett. That griffin was so strong, probably even at Silver or even Ruby rank. And yet you were able to fight it off without even a scratch on you." Ron managed to get out.

Lucian could understand how he felt. In fact, he understood all too well.

"I wasn't always like this. I used to be weak and helpless, always relying on others to save me." Lucian said.

"I had to watch the people I cared about die. All of them too. I made a promise to myself that day that I didn't even want to feel that way again."

Ron listened intently and didn't have anything to say, instead lowering his head and remaining silent.

"I'm sorry, Lucian," Ron said quietly.

Lucian nodded his head.

"Don't worry about it."

They had been travelling as fast as the horses could manage for a while now, and the sun was getting ready to set.

Little red had fallen back to sleep after Lucian had fed her some more bread and milk from his pack.

Ron was still trying to tend to Scarlett who's condition was getting worse by the hour. Between the constant bumps in the road and her broken ribs, the large gash on her chest was starting to look bad.

"There it is, lads! Dragonfront! Dead ahead!" Gilly shouted.

Ron stood up as he looked over Gilly to get a better look. Lucian did the same and decided to take a peek.

From their angle, they could see the entire town as it sat behind its fortified walls and watchtowers. It was huge, and Lucian couldn't believe just how big it was to be called a town.

"Not long now! Just hold on a little longer, Scarlett." Ron said as he took his seat back next to her.

Lucian also took his seat, waiting patiently for them to arrive, as the first step to his revenge was getting closer by the second.

He closed his eyes, and the memories of his friends played over in his head again and again.

"I promise I will avenge you." He thought as his red eyes snapped open, burning with an intense hatred.
