Chapter 171: Flaw

Arch, without much thought, drove through his enemies unlike anything else... his elation could not be contained and yet he managed to contain it. For someone like Arch who never had the chance to prove himself... this opportunity was more than he could ever want. He was much alike Jotun in this way, but that is where the similarities ended.

For one, Arch wasn't limited by reason. Like him, and many players, there was an obvious difference between them and simple NPCs. The difference wasn't listed or credited in any shape or form, there were no stat differences, there was no flavor text or anything else to signify what the difference was...

That is what Arch thought about in the moment, nothing about the fight at hand or the glory to be won afterwards, but rather about how his enemies didn't behave like players would... rather they seemed to be closer to NPCs themselves. There was that simple difference, a far reach into uncanny valley... there was all the evidence that these beings attacking Arch were players, after all they had IDs of players, yet they all lacked that human quality to them.

3 minutes until Cobalt's arrival, that is what rang in Arch's head. The System, ever so intelligent and secretive, blessed Arch with this knowledge. Normally you wouldn't of even guessed someone would Arrive so quickly... it was only an hour since Arch messaged Cobalt, and only a few minutes since Cobalt had started making his way there.

It was a noise unlike any other, the fat and muck that gathered upon Arch's blades were slowly coating and dulling the swords... this was a downside of Magic Blades, but as the gore branded swords clashed against the steel and viscera of Arch's fight the blades flickered and faltered. Magic typically had such faults, but it usually wasn't to this degree... Arch noticed the fault, and with a disappointed scowl he shook the grime off of the glowing weapons.

The blades roared once more, their shine stabilizing and once more brightly glowing. Arch, surrounded in a circle of endless enemies, scowled once more. ' Only two more minutes left at this point, these blades will have to do for only that much longer. ' His breath thickened and his grip tightened, he knew Cobalt had prepared something ridiculous. It always happened that way.

Origin knew it too. They had much more experience with Cobalt and Crimson's methods, they both were dedicated as all hell... and the results were beyond anything else. It didn't make much sense to Arch, how charming someone like that would work, but he trusted Cobalt and Cobalt trusted him.

There was a loud, plane like noise. It rumbled throughout the battle field, and just as Arch heard through his gashed ears... he realized just who had shown his face. If anyone was to create a Fighter Jet, it was him.

Cobalt sent a message to Arch.

" Hey Hey! This doesn't look like a peace negotiation at all! "

Arch reciprocated.

" Your right, it's a party! Did you make sure to bring a present? "

Cobalt chuckled, the Shiny Black Jet stalled and hovered over the still gathering of Origin Units.

" This is one hell of a party haha... now... where's the birthday boy? "

Arch chuckled and opened his hand's in reprieve, he knew exactly what Cobalt was talking about.

" Right here! "

Clunk!

From the jet spilled a black ooze, it fell straight down towards the edge of Arch's circle of enemies... it splashed against the ground and inside came a flaunting Cobalt uninjured from the grand fall, he made his presence known by opening every aspect of his gear and flaunting around with a quick spin.

In his hands were two large figured, wrapped in a red cloth.

' He didn't... ' Arch uselessly thought, ' there is no way... those are the... '.

Arch heard much earlier, the notifications that would change the world of crafting forever, that items grades were changed due to Cobalt's exploits... there was an item of a higher grand than Unique, and moreover... there were two higher than that.

The gathering of mindless enemies were shocked beyond whatever laid dormant inside of them, this display was beyond what such minds could handle... they had lost.

| Event Complete, Cobalt has arrived. |

From Cobalt's back came spilling another black substance, this time metallic... and yet organic, it made a path between the two comrades... Arch and Cobalt... through the only way necessary, intense violence. Like a thrashing beast the horror ripped it's way through the horde of enemies as Cobalt casually slipped through... no matter the desperate attempts of the enemies to come close none could contend with the escorting entity, those who weren't immediately killed either ran... or had the luxury of being test subjects.

The covered items were passed on to the Swordsman.

It opened, the two swords were revealed to the amazement of Arch and Cobalt who finally read it's stats and abilities, they were the only ones to enjoy it however as the enemy horde also had the luxury of knowing.... unfortunately to them, it was more of a curse.

With a smirk, Arch held aloft the blades... and descended upon those who had attempted for his life, his wounds bled and body ached but it didn't matter. Cobalt sat with a child like grin atop of his weapon, the ever moving mass of steel and bone. Nebula Fantasm. It didn't have much intelligence, but it knew one thing... new material was to be coming soon, and it desired it plenty. Cobalt watched and observed the massacre that ensued.

There was one more being observing it though, from a small screen came a live video of the battle... and on the other side watched Ruby, she yelled and pulled her hair at this event... she couldn't even capture Arch, who she supposed to be the best target. She needed every advantage she could get and decided it would be best to go after the Swordsman, but she miscalculated... and now she lost nearly three fourths of her units.

' I have to use them now... ' she thought as she ran off through her base, her project that she has been working on for... Months? Years? Time seemed to be lacking to Ruby, but something she didn't lack was knowledge. She knew there might be a chance to save her units... and maybe eliminate Arch and Cobalt... and so, she began to awaken them.

I'm expirimenting with this new writing style, please let me know if you prefer either one!

Usually I write from the perspective of charecters, but this form will allow just a tinsie bit more detail on Fights and such... the biggest downside though is that it's much harder for me to make the charecter's biases and thoughts evident.

Thanks for reading so far!

.... sorry for the cliffhanger ....
