Chapter 23: More Complicated and Twisted

Ivan and I are out on one of the balconies overlooking the mountain with a steep drop below. It's tempting to push him off, but with my luck he would survive. 

"Crazy right?" He puffs on a cigar and stares out at the wilderness. "Who would have thought she would be like this? Vanessa Ricca, a nut job." 

"You really don't understand what's going on?" I lean back on the railing and watch him. 

My cousin is the crazy one—the drastic changes in his mood, the unpredictability and impulsivity and mania. Add power and narcissism to all that, and you have a very, very dangerous man. 

"What do you mean?" He looks at me, a deep furrow of confusion marring his expression.
