Chapter 9: Chapter 7

I should mention the date. About a month has passed. The attack happened on 16 April. Today is 23 of May. A little more than a month.

But everyone is gone. Do I have to count? It could be done with the phones. So let's not worry about that.

Hello, this is Clive Belmont. I am departing from the capital today to head south. I want to see the sea. So I am taking a bike and a few necessities.

My partner is my dog Hazel whom I found on the way to the capital. She really is smart. Helping me always.

It's May. So it should be summer. But since the war, the climate has changed.

Seasons are nonexistent. Summer and winter are all we have left. But for these two months we get a spring like season.

It isn't that hot or cold during the day. But it gets cold at night.

I have already left the city and currently passing through the grasslands.

Hazel is with me. I have attached a carrier at the side of the bike. She is sitting there.

I think at this speed, I can reach the sea in 4 days.

This country is quite big.

I have been unable to concentrate. I am driving in a daze. If not for Hazel, I would have crashed already.

I stop the bike and get off.

I am currently a little away from my town Daedalus.

I should make a stop at that town.

Even if I am like this I should say one last goodbye to that town.

Even then, I really can't think of anything that could even remotely be called as fun.

I look at Hazel who is standing beside me.

Thinking back, this is a little away from the place where we first met.

I think we should pay a respect to her previous master.

I ask her, "Should we go and pay our respects to your master?"

I don't know if I am right or not but she nodded in disagreement.

"What? Don't want to?"

She nodded again.

Probably doesn't want to remember her previous master.

This is supposed to be a slow life story.

But the pace is a little too slow.

The author has lost his drive.

Do your best author-san.

I say this cheer the author.

I am thinking of just sleeping.

A good nights sleep will help me clear my mind.

So I get on my bike. Only a few hours away from Daedalus.

So I step on the gas. Hazel is still with me.

Can't abandon her. I mean, in this whole wide world, the only human who is me should have a companion.

She is doing a splendid job.

I drive straight and fast. We reach Daedalus by evening.

I still have my apartment key with me.

I didn't check it out last time.

So I have to check whether that is still in one piece or not.

I drive straight to my home.

The road is perfectly clear. No debris and dead bodies found.

And I look at a building. Only 4 floors.

I lived on the third floor.

The building is standing. Probably because the entire building was empty.

That's a relief.

"Let's go, Hazel." I tell her.

I parked the bike in the garage and went upstairs to my room.

I open the door and find my old room.

"Home Sweet Home." I say in a loud tone.

But this town is a total ghost town.

My voice echoed.

"Well how about that?" I look at Hazel who was looking at me.

"How about it? A bath." I say.

She wagged her tail. She probably likes to take a bath.

I have seen her play in water before.

I close the door and went to take a bath.

I washed myself nice and clean. This constant traveling has made me tired.

Hazel is also with me. We both soaked in the tub.

I heard it is dangerous to have your pet in the tub.

But Hazel is perfectly fine with that.

Her brown fur which is nice to begin with is now dripping wet.

I can't wait to see her after her bath.

Wait! Why am I acting like a boyfriend?

Like she is my girlfriend and I am waiting to see her after her bath. Have I seriously developed a weird fetish?

Anyway, I will say that I haven't.

No matter what anyone says, I am grateful to her.

But I think of her in a platonic way.

She is an indispensable part of my life.

After the bath, I dry her with a blow dryer.

She is looking good. Her fur is soft and nice to touch and is really soft.

I made dinner and we ate. Then it's time for bed.

It's only 9'o clock but I don't have anything to do.

"How about we sleep?" I say to her.

She also nodded and went in the bed.

I lie down and turn off the light.

It wouldn't hurt to sleep a little more.

So I decide to sleep and I think I will stay here for a while.

With this I fall into a deep slumber.
