Chapter 17: Chapter 15

I defeated the bear. It was a good fight. But I have to practice more. There wasn't any problem with my physical abilities.

I have exceeded the human limitations. Though plenty of humans could lift up to 1 ton.

But they were all buff and round. I have gained that strength without changing my size.

I am still the same. Now for the body, I should bury it. I get back home and take shovel.

I see that Hazel is still upset.

"Hey, wanna come with me this time?"

I ask her. And she just got up and stood beside me.

I take it that you want to. So I take her and the bike and leave.

When I reach the site, I see something unusual.

There was someone near the dead bear. I stop at that. I observe it. That is a small bear.

The size could be called a baby bear. A cub.

Was the bear I killed its mother?

I never wanted to kill the bear. But I had to. And I have orphaned its cub.

This is heavy. I go to the cub with Hazel following me.

It's trying to wake its mother. I confirmed it before. The bear I fought was a female.

The cub looks at me and becomes vigilant. It's growling at me. So I put down the shovel which I had and put my hands up.

It's better to not scare the bear. It might fight back if threatened.

And I slowly approach the cub. It is still growling at me.

But I extended my hand to it.

I should have the same smell as its mother because I fought it barehanded.

It sniffed my hand and somehow it started rubbing its head with my hand.

Aaaahhh…..this is weird. I thought for sure that it would fight back or try to bite me.

But it is just rubbing its head. I pat its head and it looks at me intently.

Judging from its size it isn't that old. Even smaller than Hazel.

I try to pick it up and it didn't do anything. It's kinda light. What should I do?

I am in a pickle. I killed its mother and it is attached to me now.

But, I don't want to kill it. Everyone has the right to live. I also came here with a resolve.

If you want to kill someone, be ready to die yourself. I don't know who said that but it is true.

So, I came here to kill or die. And I killed. But this cub doesn't deserve to die. Well nor did its mother.

Aahhh. This is confusing. I am contradicting myself with my talks.

Anyway, I look at Hazel.

"What should I do?" I ask her.

She stared at me for a while and came near me.

She barked and gestures with her feet to put the cub down.

I put it down and Hazel was licking it.

Is that to confirm something? I don't know. She pointed at the dead bear and barked at me.

"What? Want me to bury it?" I ask.

She nodded. I knew she was clever but this has reached another level now.

I simply give up and start digging a hole.

The bear is 2 meters tall and at least a meter in width.

The hole needs to be big.

Whilst digging I look over at Hazel and the cub.

She is doing something with the cub but I can't understand.

Are they communicating? Is that some special method of communication between animal?

I focus on digging and it took me 10 minutes to dig a hole big enough to bury the bear.

I carry the dead bear. When it was alive, if felt lighter. But carrying the lifeless body, I really broke a sweat.

I put the bear in the hole and start filling it.

After completely burying the bear, I take a big stone and put it on the grave.

The cub brought a handful of soil and put it on the grave.

Were animals this clever or are they just special?

I pray for the soul though I don't know if gods exist or not.

"Why not go back?" I ask Hazel.

But she brought the cub to the bike as well.

"Are you going to bring it home?" I ask.

I personally have no problem raising a bear.

But is that really normal? And the opinion of the cub matters as well.

But before Hazel could do anything, the cub got onto the extra carrier.

It seemed really eager.

Hazel also got on and sat beside it.

I guess, they have given the seal of approval.

I sit on the bike and start driving. But taking the cub into account, I drive slower than normal.

I should think of a name as well. It doesn't matter but giving a name also means that, I won't have to call them that or it.

I gavel Hazel her name based on her color. But I think I should see whether the cub is a male or a female.

Then I will think of a good name for it.

While thinking, I arrived at the city and I reached home in a short while.

The weapons I took were of no use. But I should check my limit. How many times can I shoot it and what does that staff do?

There are so many things to do. And I had totally forgotten about the sea. But that can wait.

Thinking this I parked the bike and climbed the stairs.

I had to carry the cub upstairs as it wasn't mature enough to climd the stairs.
