Chapter 1: The First Murder

On the desert of Coraltree lies a small town called Wasser. Wasser is a peaceful town with good people. Everyone who lived in Wasser is content with the water and food supply provided by the city of Terre. No conflict has ever occurred in Wasser. There was no criminal in Wasser. It is truly a peaceful and innocent town.

However, that peace was very flimsy, and so it was easily snapped.

On the night of November 13, 1876, a woman named Annie Cassidy was sleeping inside her apartment and on the roof of the Gun's Pub, right next to her window, was an unknown figure. An unknown figure with a sinister smile and a sinister intent. The unknown figure shot a bullet through her window and into her heart whilst she was sleeping. The first crime in Wasser had happened. A mystery had appeared, and the innocence of the town has been robbed.

Morning came, and it was still very normal. Until the landlady of Annie, Jesse Oakley, came inside the apartment to collect Annie's rent, but instead of Annie, she was greeted by a corpse. Jesse screamed at the sight of the corpse making everyone riled up.

Davy Cassidy, Annie's brother, ran to the source of the scream and found the body, and Jesse fainted on the floor. He was terrified, but he had to remain calm and get the sheriff and the detective. So he ran like a mad man under the rising sun.

"Sheriff Dylan! Detective Colton!" Davy shouted as he banged the door repeatedly.

"Annie was killed in cold blood!" Davy added in a loud voice.

Sheriff Dylan woke up to Davy's repeated shouting. He wasn't listening to Davy's shouting. Dylan found it annoying and wants to silence him. Sheriff Dylan went up the door and opened it.

"Why the hell are you shouting this early in the morning jackass?!" Dylan said with clear annoyance.

"Annie Cassidy was murdered, and all you care about is your sleep?!" Davy said with anger.

"What? Why didn't you say so?" Dylan said while confounded with fear.

He then proceeded to get changed and woke up Detective Colton.

Sheriff Dylan, Detective Colton, and Davy Cassidy arrived at the Apartment complex with the Sheriff's men. Sheriff Dylan's men locked down the vicinity and had everyone in the complex stay in the station as prime suspects in Annie Cassidy's murder.

Inside Annie Cassidy's apartment were Sheriff Dylan and Detective Colton investigating the crime scene. Inside Annie's room, Detective Colton found words written with menacing ink on the wall assumed to be from the killer. It said, "Something Sweet,". It stuck fear mixed with confusion to Colton, but also excitement.

"Sheriff Dylan! Come see this." Colton called.

"What is it, junior?" Dylan asked while walking to the room.

"The killer left some words for us," Colton said while confused in fear.

"He or She says Something Sweet," Colton recited in sarcasm.

"Well, I'll be damned if I said that isn't scary and confusing," Dylan said.

"Yeah, but the note is not helpful," Colton said while deep in thought.

"The question is who would kill Annie Cassidy," Colton added.

"You have a point, Junior. She never had any enemies." Dylan said with his hand on his chin.

"I think the bigger question is: Why would someone kill Annie," Colton thought.

"So judging from what I can see and assume in this crime scene, Annie was shot in the middle of the night from the roof of the pub; the bullet went through the window and then through her heart while she was sleeping on her bed." Dylan enumerated.

"With what gun was she shot with junior?" Dylan asked.

"Hang on, lemme pull this out," Colton says as he pulled the bullet out from her heart disgusted.

"Hmm, that's odd," Colton said in confusion.

"What is it, Junior?" Dylan asked with curiosity.

"This bullet shouldn't exist in Wasser. It should only exist in Terre," Colton said with confidence.

"A LeMat Revolver 1856 bullet," Colton added.

"So our killer is from the big city and has good taste in guns," Dylan said in sarcasm then proceeds to laugh.

"Junior clean up this mess, and I'll handle the paperwork and the interrogation," Dylan said with apathy in his tone.

"Yes, sir," Colton replied.

Detective Colton then called Deputy Gilford Paddock and ordered him to do the paperwork about the details of the crime scene. He then ordered the rest clean up the apartment after the paperwork is done and proceeded to ride his horse to the station.

"Time to help Sheriff Dylan with the interrogation," Colton said with a joking tone.

While Deputy Gilford was writing the paperwork about the details of the crime scene, his curiosity was peaked when he asked himself, "How did the killer get up the roof?". He went to the pub and examined both the inside and outside the pub. His discovery was alarming since what he saw was a lasso hitched to the chimney of the pub and footprints found on the wall.

"What the hell?! So our killer can climb buildings?!" Gilford said with sarcasm and fear.

At the station's interrogation room, Sheriff Dylan is interrogating the prime suspects. The prime suspects were Carl Poppert and his wife Mabell Poppert, Jenny Lenon, Celestia Outhwaite, and her husband Victor Outhwaite, and the person who discovered the body, Jesse Oakley; her husband Harley Oakley, and the one that called us to the scene, Davy Cassidy. The married couples all had solid alibis thanks to their children, and Jenny Lenon was sleeping with her boyfriend Adolf Haneman in his apartment. Lastly, Davy Cassidy was inside his apartment with his son. All the prime suspects have an alibi. After the interrogation, Sheriff Dylan went to his office and sat down. He was stressed.

"Junior! What have you found out?" Dylan called out with apathy in his tone.

"Sir!" Colton shouted as he walked into his office.

"We are still waiting for the paperwork about the scene being prepared by Deputy Gilford," Colton said.

"So nothing new," Dylan said while feeling indolent.

"Ummm Sir, if I may, since the gun came from Terre, shouldn't we question the people who came from there recently?" Colton said.

"Do you know how many people came here from Terre?!" Dylan shouted

"Everyone here came from Terre or at least went through the City Dolton!" Dylan added.

"Everyone also just came from the festival held at Terre recently. So are you saying that everyone in this town is a suspect?!" Dylan shouted in anger.

"Sir, with all due respect, that wasn't what I meant," Colton replied calmly.

"What did you mean then, Detective Dylan?!" Dylan asked

"I meant the newcomers that have a permit to handle firearms, sir," Colton answered.

"And if none of them have the permit?!" Dylan asked angrily.

"Then we have to assume that a firearm has been stolen from gunshops or police stations in Terre," Colton answered calmly.

"And if there are no reports of a LeMat 1856 Revolver stolen?" He asked as he calmed himself down.

"Then then someone bought it from the black market," Colton answered.

"We still know nothing about the killer Detective Dolton. We can't go on a Manhunt for someone who bought a revolver," Dylan stated.

"There could be thousands that have that same gun," Dylan added.

"Sheriff Dylan! Detective Colton," Deputy Gilford yelled as he ran into the office of the sheriff with the details of the crime scene.

"What is it, Deputy Gilford?" Colton asked wondering if Gilford found something.

"I found out two things about the killer judging from the crime scene," Gilford stated with confidence.

"What did you found out, Gilford?" Dylan questioned.

"Well, the killer is an acrobat, sir," Gilford answered.

"What do you mean, Gilford?" Colton asked in confusion.

"The killer can climb buildings by hitching a lasso to a chimney and walk up the walls with the help of the lasso," Gilford stated.

"The killer can also hold their balance in an uneven surface because holding the balance on a roof like the Pub's is a difficult task even more so when you're shooting," Gilford said.

"You said you discovered two things. What was the other?" Colton questioned.

"Their shoe size is size 8," Gilford answered.

"Did you find out anything about the note?" Dylan wondered.

"Other than being scary and confusing, no sir," Gilford replied.

"Alright, you may go now, Deputy Gilford. Thank you for the newfound information." Dylan said to Gilford.

Deputy Gilford leaves to continue writing the paperwork.

"Well, Detective Colton, can I trust you in this case?" Dylan questioned Colton.

"Of course sir. I'm the Detective after all." Colton stated with conviction.
