Chapter 9: 8. Isn't That Interesting?

"It must be lonely," I muttered as they walked me to a greenhouse which they said that they all take care of together. "You don't get to stay on your dad's castle, neither with your mother because they live in the King's harem castle," I felt when they all turned to me, but I kept staring at the roses. "Not to mention that they must flood you all with political matters."

Silently, they took me to a light-green colored iron table, and made a sign for me to sit down. Then they sat around me. All without saying a word.

"Back at my home," I kept going, "it was always me and my parents. They did their best to raise me like a normal child, although it was quite complicated, seeing as I also have responsabilities," my gaze traveled around them. "With you, I mean. But they still tried their best."

Benjamin tilted his head to the right, catching my attention, "You avoided social gatherings."

"I did."

"Even when they were in your parents territory," Nathan added. "You would only be around for a brief moment."

"Indeed." It's not like that's a secret.

"Why?" Valentin asked, looking straight at me. "Mom told me girls love to be on social gatherings like tea parties and parties overall. Why not you?"

I have better things to do with the time I still have. Sigh. "They are superficial. Only want to get closer to me because of my bloodline. Because I'm a Mhorgain, not because I'm Amelie. None of those nobles care about me, only about my status. And although kids my age shouldn't think about those things, I can't help it."

"You were always this aware of society?" Erik asked with his eyebrows slightly raised.

Rolling my shoulders, I looked at my hand. "Not always. But when from the moment I was old enough to understand that they aren't genuine with me, I didn't see a reason to be with them. They are the ones who are benefiting from being with me, not otherwise. I want nothing from them. Nothing that they could be able to give me," as honesty and a genuine friendship.

"And how old were you when you came to that conclusion?" Kaleb asked stunned.

"I guess I was around 3. You must know as well as I do how us, kids, are way more sensible to the world around us that adults. We can feel if their actions are genuine or not, and we are able to choose what to do with that," and I chose to stay away.

They all stared at me, speechless, for ages. That is, until Nathan broke the silence. Who else would have done that but him, right?

"What's your favorite color?" What?

"Pardon me?" I gasped confused.

"Oh, come on. The mood was terrible, I'm trying to soften it if my brothers don't bother with it. So, what's your favorite color?" What a... Casual question.

I did not expect that. "Red."

"What shade of red?" He's really into this hm?!

"Crimson."

"Day or night?" Is he making me random questions just for the sake of not letting us stay silent?

"Night."

"Favorite race?" That question made all of his brothers turn to me.

Well, they really seem to like this topic. "I don't know. I don't feel like choosing. But it's definitely not humanity," I mocked. "As I said, humans can be usually rotten," like them in the game.

They seemed disappointed. "Between shifters and vampires, then?" Benjamin tried.

"Not choosing," I smirked, finding their reaction quite amusing. "You guys seem quite fascinated by the other races," I bend down and took a flower from the ground. "That's good. The fact that all the five of you share the same thoughts on this is good, because then the Kingdom might be more peaceful on this matter in the future." Playing with the ends of my hair, I bit my lip. "When one of you becomes the King in the future. It would be troublesome if some of you thought that way, while others were racist!"

"Indeed," they all muttered in sync.

"About the books," Erik started and I looked up. "Which of the five did you like more?"

I chuckled, "You guys really have a thing with making me chose between many options, hm?" But the answer for that was easy, "Surprisingly enough, as you will see from my notes on your books, I actually liked all of them. However," that made them smirk at each other. "There are two books that especially took over more space in my heart."

When I paused, they all gasped annoyed, "Say it, come on!" They all said in sync again. Well, at least the fact that they are siblings can't be denied. The King's blood must run deep.

"Morpheus," I said looking at Valentin, "and The Song of Blood and Love," I turned to Erik. "Maybe it's because they are both different types of dreamers, and I'm a dreamer myself. But I really loved all the books, so don't get stressed."

The two seemed happy. Especially Valentin, "So, you want the other volumes? I can give them to you. I have all of them. Then we can talk about your thoughts on them later!"

"That's a good idea!"

"Alright, you can talk about that on your day together. Which is not today!" Nathan exclaimed annoyed. "Today is with all of us. Not just you, Val!"

His brother smirked, "You are jealous because she didn't like your book!"

I arched my eyebrows, "I never said I didn't like Liam's Heart. I love reading romance, so, I loved the book as well. Especially because it is was a romance between two different races," I rolled my shoulders and turned to him. "Besides your inconvenient way of talking in the letter, it was good surprise to know that your favorite book was that one!"

Blushing he avoided my eyes, "I have a good taste in books."

"All of you have," I exclaimed. "There wasn't any book I didn't like, Valentin. I'm not being polite when I said liked all of them!"

"All of them!" Benjamin exclaimed to his brother in a mischievous tone. Then he turned to me, and I smirked at him.

"In your letter you doubted that I would be able to understand and enjoy," he kept that condescending look on his face. "Tell me what you think after you read all of my notes, Benjamin!"

He scoffed, "You are interesting, Amelie!"

"I know," I mocked and they all giggled. "So, any more silly questions?"

"What's your favorite animal?" Kaleb asked and I had to hold the urge to sigh, what's with them and animals?

I bet that if they were in the modern world of the XXI century, they would all be vets, for sure. Or those people who defend animals rights. I could see them like that.

"Hedgehogs," that seemed to catch them by surprise. "Aren't they just adorable?"

Erik raised an eyebrow, "They are covered in thorns and can harm you. How do you like those creatures?"

"Yes, they have thorns. However, when you gain their trust, those thorns don't hurt anymore. Isn't that interesting?" I played with my hands, not really wanting to wait for an answer. "So, what do you do in here?"

"In the greenhouse or in the palace?" Nathan asked.

"Both."
