* * * *
River’s heart kept beating faster and irregular and feeling warmer and warmer. His fingers around the leather steering wheel were cold and slow from adrenaline. But it was all positive; he couldn’t remember ever feeling so excited and weightless before. Luke reached over to ruffle his hair. River couldn’t think well so he ended up in a place he was used to driving to but when they got out of the car, he didn’t enter the hospital building, instead walking into the heart of the garden. They followed the rounded path side by side until they reached the intersection and the bench. Luke spoke first as they stood beside it looking out over the collection of sunny tulips and deep purple pansies.
“Hey, River, if you describe a person to someone and they don’t recognize the description, why do you think that is?”
“You described them wrong?” River rolled his eyes.
“Not possible!”
“Fine, then they don’t know the person you’re describing.”
“Yes, I thought so, too. Now I know so.”
