Jaswyn pulls me back down. "Be more careful, kid. They might see you." "Are they...what I think they are?" She nods. "That's why you need to leave now. Go get your brother and then go." "But what about Eloria? I can't just leave her by herself. I think she's somewhere here on this market and doesn't even know how to protect herself so she's far more in danger than Rein is, he has basic knowledge of combat at least." Jaswyn's face scrunches up in thought, it seems that the decision is very hard for her. "Fine. Search for Eloria first but then go get your brother immideantly. The shop he's working at is pretty far from here so he should be fine for the time being but at the moment no place in this town is safe. You have to hurry." "Of course I will, they're both very important to me and I couldn't bare loosing one of them."
I try to be as quiet as possible as I slip through the backdoor so none of the infected would notice me and I must be blessed by the gods because I somehow managed it. Still, I keep one of my hands hovering over the hilt of my dagger at all times while I'm sneaking around behind the market stands just in case. Suddenly a hand grabs me from the side, a women who is hiding under the counter of her market stands is crying, looking at me with a frightened expression and begging me for help with her eyes as she whispers prayers. I try to calm her down by laying one of my hands on the hand she is still gripping me with and even try to smile reassuringly.
In that moment though I see one of the cursed ones stumbling in our direction and my nice smile quickly turns into a nervous one.
I try to get the women to shut up before it's too late by putting a finger on my lips to signal her to be quiet but she just keeps mumbling prayers while tears stream down her face. She starts to sob and the head of the infected immideantly snaps to us and he starts to growl. After a few more desperate attempts to make her get what's going on I understand that she won't stop quiet down no matter what I do so I have make a decision. The monster has already noticed us so now it's her or me. And I just can't die yet. Not without knowing for sure that Rein, Jaswyn and Eloria are safe and sound. "I'm so sorry.", I whisper as she keeps holding onto my hand.
She doesn't even seem to notice that the monster is approaching, she just keeps holding onto my arm and continues to pray. "What's your name?" "Rhelia.", the women tells me between sobs. "May Ilya guide your soul into the everlasting paradise, Rhelia. Please forgive me." I shove her just hard enough for her to let go of me and then hurry to crawl away. "Wait! Where are you going, girl?", she shouts, still oblivious of the Infected right behind her, "Don't leave me behind, plea-!", and before she can finish what she has to say the creature's deformed hand grabs her from above and drags her over the countertop. I don't know what happend after that since I kept crawling without looking back, too terrified of what I might see. The only thing I know for certain is that her screams will haunt my dreams forever.
Finally, after some time of crawling I spot what looks like the sleeve of our school uniform peeking out from behind one of the market stands. Please gods, let it be her. Unfortunately the stand I think she's behind is on the other side of the road so I if I want to get over there I would have to be in clear view for at least 5 seconds and with cursed people around that really doesn't sound appealing at all. But fuck it, it's for Eloria. And with that thought in mind I start to sprint over to the other side as fast as I can.
